Conveniently situated across the road from Shaldon beach, East Cliff occupies the top three floors of a large Georgian house built around 1700. With stunning views across the Teign Estuary to Teignmouth and along the coast, decorated and furnished to a good standard, this is the perfect place for families or friends. Just a minute’s walk from Shaldon village with its old pubs, restaurants and shops. There is a good choice of cafés, both in the village and on the Strand overlooking the beach and you can walk along to the Ness and the Tunnels Beach, which was said to be a haven for smugglers. August sees the Shaldon Regatta and the duck race, when hundreds of yellow ducks are released on The Strand to bob along the Teign Estuary. A regular ferry runs all year across the Teign Estuary to Teignmouth where you will find a lively seaside town bursting with cafés, bars, restaurants and attractions. Perfect for a stroll along the Victorian pier or for a lazy day spent relaxing on the long stretches of golden sand. July’s Teignmouth Carnival and the Jazz Festival in November are also well worth a look. Close by is the 500 acre Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Dartmoor is a short drive and well worth a visit. Activities include golf, sailing, water sports and horse riding. Along the coast is Torquay where you can take a ferry to Brixham, visit the Theatre or visit Living Coasts, where penguins wander freely. Further on the coast is Paignton with a fantastic zoo. Take a steam train from Paignton and a ferry to Dartmouth, visit the castle or take a boat trip. There are many NT places well worth discovery, including Agatha Christie’s holiday home. Shop, pub and restaurant 500 yards.
