Greater London – 3 Alternative 'Must See' Destinations In The Capital
According to a survey carried out by the World Tourist and Travel Association over 27 million tourists visited the City of London in 2012 alone, making the nation's capital the most visited city on the planet. With a plethora of famous landmarks, museums, galleries, parks and walks it comes as no surprise that London has it all.

However, many of the tourists that flock here descend upon the relatively small area surrounding the city itself to visit famous landmarks such as Big Ben, St Paul's Cathedral, the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace and Tower Bridge. However, if you're prepared to get on the tube or bus and travel further afield the reality is that London has much more to offer. With this in mind, here are three great alternative London destinations that you really should check out.

Camden Town
Situated in Northwest of London lies Camden Town. Once somewhat run-down it underwent a major rejuvenation program in the 1980's and as a result, it's now a thriving and lively metropolis where visitors can soak up the sights, sound, and smells that this diverse place brings. Why not go shopping in the labyrinth of open air markets, or stop in the many cafés and bars situated down by Regent's Canal and simply people watch. For those that love music, you're in for a treat! Camden is the hub of London's live music scene and places such as the Roundhouse, the Jazz Café and the Electric Ballroom all have great live music. Finally if you are feeling peckish, then Camden is home to a wide variety of restaurants and cafés serving a multitude of worldwide cuisine.

Brick Lane East London
Located between Liverpool Street and Shoreditch, Brick Lane is home to much of the city's Bengali population. Here visitors can sample the delights at some of the best curry houses in the UK, and they are not expensive either. In addition the area is fast becoming known for its fashion conscious, cutting-edge art crowd. As a result it also houses some of the city's most vibrant clubs and bars. Just off Brick Lane lies Spitalfields Market where visitors can happily browse or purchase a plethora of clothes, antiques and art. The architecture is as eclectic as the people who live here with contemporary glass fronted buildings comfortably juxtaposed with run down shop fronts. All in all it makes for an eye opening and wonderful experience.

Take a walk along the South Bank
Stretching 2 miles between London Bridge and Waterloo is the South Bank. Adjacent to the River Thames it's a walkway that takes in some of the best known sights of London. In fact you don't have to go far to spot some of the most famous landmarks including impressive views of the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye and London Aquarium are situated on route as is the Globe Theatre. Finally if you stray just off the South Bank, you'll come across many hidden gems such as galleries, specialist shops, bars and boutiques which are well worth a visit.

So there you have it, three alternative London destinations! Why not hop on the bus or tube and check them out? You'll be glad that you did.
