Ned’s is a perfect bolt hole for couples, adjacent to the owner’s home, and is set in the heart of Widecombe-in-the-Moor on Dartmoor, once the inspiration for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s ’The Hound of the Baskervilles’, and also the filming of War Horse. This is such an idyllic setting overlooking the village green. The unusual layout consists of a kitchen and dining area downstairs, and an open plan living room/bedroom on the first floor. Also on the first floor, reached via open tread stairs, is the shower room. Just half a minute’s walk to the pub, and a short walk to another pub, with a shop and cafe just a stone’s throw away. Guests can enjoy glorious walking from the doorstep too. The village is world-famous for its fair, held annually in September, which gave rise to the well-known folk song ’Widecombe Fair’ and the characters of Uncle Tom Cobley and All. Visitors can enjoy a stroll around this small village, with a gift shop, tea and cakes at one of the cafés, or a meal and a beer at one of the pubs. Dartmoor National Park’s weather is as dramatic as its landscape, from its striking granite tors to steep wooded river valleys; from swathes of heather covered moorland to villages and hamlets tucked away. Some people come to experience the tranquillity of this land of contrasts, whilst others come to get active. Dartmoor is perfect for walkers and there are many guided walks as well as individual groups to be seen out on the moor in all weathers. Widecombe provides a peaceful sheltered spot after the exposed moors and is perfect for a cream tea or something stronger. Pottering around the shops is also good fun. Why not visit the National Trust Shop in the Old Sexton’s House for example. Other activities and pastimes in the area include tennis (courts for hire locally), pony trekking, horse riding and cycling. Beach 12 miles. Shop 10 yards, pub and restaurant 30 yards.

Ground floor: Dining room/kitchen with tiled floors. Open tread stairs to first floor: Living room with double bed. Shower room and toilet.

Electricity CH, elec, bed linen and towels included. Freeview TV. Induction hob. Combi Microwave/oven/grill. Wi-fi. Courtyard with sitting-out area and furniture. Parking (1 car). Welcome pack. Pets free of charge. No smoking. Friday to Friday.
