They enjoy a perfect location on the banks of the River Avon, and on the edge of the picturesque village of Bathampton, which is 2 miles from the centre of Bath. The Kennet and Avon Canal also runs through the village, enabling walkers and cyclists to easily access Bath and beyond, enjoying the pubs and tea shops along the way. Boat trips can also be taken on the river and canal. Designated as a World Heritage Site, Bath presents some of the finest architectural sights in Europe, such as the Royal Crescent, the Circus and Pulteney Bridge. There is a good variety of museums and galleries, including the American Museum and the Jane Austen Centre. Festivals, theatre and street entertainment bring life and excitement to this vibrant city, and the Thermae Bath Spa with rooftop pool is a popular attraction. Bath is also a celebrated shopping centre, with many unique and independent retailers, and the variety of restaurants, bars and cafes leave guests spoilt for choice. There are many parks and gardens to relax in, away from the bustle of the city, and guided open top bus tours take you out to the perimeter of the city to enjoy the glorious views of the stunning Georgian architecture. There are many National Trust properties to visit, including Prior Park, Dyrham Park, and further afield Westwood Manor, Iford, The Courts, Stourhead and Lacock Abbey. For keen walkers and cyclists there is a dedicated 13 mile traffic-free path from the edge of Bath to Bristol, the Bath Skyline, and also The Cotswolds Way national trail. Within easy reach are the family attractions of Longleat Safari Park, the famous Gorge and Caves at Cheddar, Wookey Hole paper mill and caves. The city of Bristol is worth a visit, with its revamped harbour area, SS Great Britain, Clifton Suspension Bridge, and the vast array of shopping malls and restaurants.
