Take a step back in time and come and stay at Darling Buds Farm – which became internationally famous as the set for the TV series The Darling Buds of May (1991–1993). It was home to Pop Larkin (David Jason), Ma Larkin (Pam Ferris), Mariette (Catherine Zeta Jones) and Charley (Philip Franks). Three hundred girls were auditioned for the part of Mariette before Catherine Zeta Jones was found and the series launched her career. At the time the TV Show was the most popular show on British TV and its simple lifestyle set in the 1950s showcased the beautiful Kent countryside. The title of the show comes from Shakespeare’s Sonnet 18.

The farm itself lies between the villages of Pluckley and Bethersden and consists of a courtyard of buildings, including Pop Larkin’s farmhouse (ref PTTV) sleeping 10, a typical Kentish oasthouse (ref PSSA) sleeping 8 and The Cart Lodge (ref PTTW) sleeping 4. There is plenty of parking and the holiday properties are set in 35 acres of land with footpaths on the doorstep. Guests also have access to paddocks and grassland to play a game of cricket or rounders or can enjoy visiting the animals. A stream winds its way between nine large ponds through the farmland, and the farm also hosts a classic car show each year in the summer.

Kent has so much to offer including the reindeer centre next door. Tenterden, ‘The Jewel of the Weald’, vineyards (including Biddenden Vineyards), the South of England Rare Breeds Centre, the Kent and East Sussex Railway, gardens (including Sissinghurst) and a plethora of National Trust homes and castles await exploration. Visit the beaches at Camber Sands or sample oysters and hire bikes at Whitstable. The high speed train to London takes 38 minutes for further sightseeing opportunites, or sample lunch in Paris via the Eurostar. Altogether "Perfick!”, as the Larkins would say! Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

The Larkins’ residence, Grade II listed and with oak beams. Step to entrance hall with traditional brick floor. Beamed living/dining room with wood-burning stove in inglenook fireplace, piano, original 1950s drinks cabinet and Japanese oak floor. Beamed, farmhouse-style kitchen with breakfast area and wooden floor. Double bedroom with 5ft zip & link bed. First floor: Four double bedrooms, each with 5ft zip & link bed; three with en-suite shower room and toilet. Bathroom with shower attachment and toilet.
