Located in a peaceful hamlet ideal for touring the beautiful Lizard peninsula, Skyber Cottage, adjacent to the owners’ home, is the perfect holiday destination for small families or couples looking for a relaxing break. Sitting in a pretty rural hamlet close to the village of Ruan Minor, the most southerly part of the British mainland, is a place apart. A combination of the mild maritime climate, and complex and unique geology, has produced an area with a distinctive character, well known for its rare and unusual flora, and where the famous call of the Cornish chough is never far away. The Lizard Peninsula is also renowned as the birthplace of communication, where Marconi undertook some of his pioneering radio experiments. These experiments are celebrated at the Marconi Centre at Poldhu and the Lizard Wireless Station. National Trust places on the Lizard Peninsula range from the dramatic coastal scenery around Lizard Point, to the beautiful ancient woodland around the Helford River. Two miles to the north of Lizard Village lies the secluded Kynance Cove, considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and a few miles further along this stretch of coast the beautiful picture-postcard harbour at Mullion Cove. The area has a wealth of wildlife and some of the UK’s most stunning scenic coastal paths. Discover the working fishing village of Cadgwith, with its thatched cottages, inn and gig house clustered around the cove. The coastal path offers stunning cliff scenery, much of it National Trust, and walks to the Lizard Village, lighthouse and the most southerly point, as well as to other well-known beauty spots, such as Kynance, Poltesco and Kennack Sands. As complete contrasts, only a matter of a few minutes’ drive away are the wild, open heathland of Goonhilly Downs, dominated by the dramatic Satellite Earth Station (open to the public) which is now a nature reserve and recognised as a site of international botanical importance. Nearby is the sheltered and peaceful Helford River, which attracts yachtsmen from all over the world and is well known for its sub-tropical gardens and secluded villages, such as Helford with its delightful riverside inn and its enchanted wooded creekside walks, made famous by Daphne du Maurier’s romantic novel ‘Frenchman’s Creek’. Boats can be hired by those who wish to take to the water. The rare geology of the area creates a haven for exceptional plants and flowers. Around the coastline you’ll find little fishing ports with huge granite sea walls to protect from the Atlantic gales, restaurants specialising in freshly caught seafood, and gorgeous sandy bays with jagged black rocks jutting out in to the sea. The villages are picture book perfect with tiny thatched cottages clinging together at the ends of the valley, in coves where a small fleet of fishing boats catch fresh crab and lobster. The kids farm is great and you can get close to, touch and even feed the animals, there are two play areas, a train and much more. The gardens are beautiful and there is lots of stunning and colourful plants that emit lovely aromas, with lots of benches to sit on, providing a nice relaxed environment. Staff are friendly and will happily answer any questions you have. The Otter Pool Cafe is warm and welcoming and offers a nice selection of drinks, hot and cold dishes and snacks, at reasonable prices. The Gift Shop offers a nice choice of gifts and related souvenirs that are also reasonably priced and there is something to suit all budgets. Paradise park does a great job, it is well kept and very clean and the animals appear to be happy, prices are very reasonable for all that is on offer here, there is something for everyone and makes for a great family day out, highly recommended.
This recreational park was once part of a wealthy mining family's estate. It now hosts a variety of facilities including an orienteering course, BBQ area and events field. There are numerous walks around the park and its lake.

This 11 mile long-distance footpath and cycle trail links the historic mining harbours of Portreath in the North and Devoran in the South. The trail is mostly off-road and should take about five hours to walk. You can hire bikes at Bissoe, Nancekuke or Portreath.
A walk recommended by the National Trust, this trail includes areas particularly good for seeing wildlife, viewing the spectacular scenery and for visiting places of historical interest. Ranked easy to moderate at about 3 miles, this is a great route to do at a leisurely pace soaking up the amazing scenery as you go.
Starting at Land's End the route passes through Penzance, Hayle, Cambourne and Redruth. Near Truro, you can opt to head south to Mevagissey, St Austell and The Eden Project or continue on to Bodmin.

It has nineteen fully lit, all weather bays offering a safe and protected area to practise your swing and drive. It comes with targets to test your accuracy as well as distance markers. Next to the range is a 12-hole course with a selection of holes that range in length offering the ideal environment to test your skills. The course is scenic, the greens are in good condition, holes are mostly par 3 or 4 but there are a few 5's and it offers challenges to golfers of all abilities. They provide all equipment so you don't need to take anything along. Other facilities available here are a fully-equipped training suite, state of the art indoor golf simulator, pro shop and a new addition is the Croquet Golf course, mini golf with a croquet twist, it offers a fun activity that all the family can play and enjoy. They are open daily from 9.30am, closing times vary but, full details are on the website. The prices are very reasonable and offer great value. Hayle Golf Range offers everything a golfer could need on one site, long opening hours, great prices and lovely scenery a wonderful spot to visit to hone your golfing skills or enjoy a short game.
Gwinear Pitch and Putt is located in an idyllic location in Reawla within in ten acres of beautiful countryside. This short 18 hole course is well designed and well maintained and has lovely landscaping. It is an excellent pitch and putt course with defined tees, interesting holes, fast fairways, semi rough and rough and the greens are through, it is more like a golf course. The course is challenging but fun. There is no need to book or take along any equipment everything is supplied here. Prices are very reasonable adults play for £7 and children up to 14 are only £4 for a round. There is a nice clubhouse cafe that is welcoming and cosy, where you can relax after a round and enjoy the hospitality and delicious range of hot and cold dishes, snacks and beverages that are all made using local Cornish produce and are real value for money. There is also a nice terrace area for those nice sunny days. They are open From February through to October from 10.00am until dusk each day. Gwinear Pitch and Putt offers a fun and enjoyable round of golf within a beautiful location, excellent hospitality, customer service and prices too, a real gem, highly recommended.

The most southerly peninsula in England, the Lizard has high cliffs making it a popular area for gannet watching. During times of migration, it is also a good place to see swallows, swifts, warblers and flycatchers. In the winter months turnstones and purple sandpipers often come up to the shoreline, and in spring oystercatchers can also be found.
In winter, many birds flock to this reservoir including wigeon, coot, tufted duck, poachard and Canada geese. In the spring, a large number of sand martins, house martins and swallows frequent the area.
Part of the Fal Estuary, The area known as the Carrick Roads is so deep it regularly attracts great numbers of sea-going birds in the winter. Looe beach near Feoch seems to offer the best access for viewing one of the largest flocks of wintering Black Neck Grebes in the UK

The family home to the Tremayne family for over 400 years, this remarkable setting holds a great deal of intrigue and mystery. At the turn of the century decline had set in very rapidly and the gardens were neglected. A storm in 1990 revealed them once again and captured the imagination of those that discovered them. Lessons are safe and relaxed and the instructors are patient and encouraging with you. Godrevy Head is located at the far end of St Ives Bay. The coastline here is breathtaking and the area is so tranquil and peaceful. It offers the opportunity to see a seal colony that reside here in the cove, they often come onto the beach to stretch out and bask in the sunshine, make sure to take along a pair of binoculars to get the best views of them. It also offers lovely walks along the cliff tops, the sand or amongst the dunes. Children will love searching out stones and shells, or examining the rock pools. It is also home to lots of different species of birds and gorgeous wild flowers. Just off the coast is the lighthouse that served as inspiration for Virginia Woolf. It can get busy as it is a very popular spot especially during the summer months. There is a nice cafe on site serving a good choice of beverages and snacks, cakes as well as hot and cold dishes, that are all freshly prepared and are great value, it has a nice outdoor seating area for those warm days. On nice days an ice cream van visits the area. Godrevy Head is a simply stunning spot and offers the best views, walks and wildlife and it can be enjoyed whatever the weather and makes for a great day out for everyone.
The ATV Centre offers you the opportunity to take part in a fun sport that is growing in popularity. They have the biggest selection of Quads and one of the best circuits around, the track extends to over a mile with long runs, jumps, tight corners and banked corners. They provide all the equipment which, is well maintained and clean, you are advised to wear long sleeve trousers and tops and closed shoes for your own safety. The staff are very friendly and helpful, they are all highly trained and professional. Before commencing you are given full tuition and a safety briefing. Whether you are a complete novice or an experienced rider there is a quad and circuit to suit you. It is an activity that all the family or a group can take part in, there are particular quads for those aged six upwards. The ATV Centre offers a safe and controlled environment to enjoy this exciting and thrilling sport in an very organised environment. There are benches at the side or on the footbridge where you can observe the riders or take some photos. The centre is open daily throughout the year and offers excellent value for money, highly recommended if you are looking for a fun and exciting activity.
Skinners Brewery is a relatively new family owned brewers to the Cornwall region but they have already firmly established themselves as distinguished brewers and received a number of awards to reflect this. Their award winning ales are produced here using locally grown barley and other local ingredients and traditional methods to produce their fine ales. They are located in the gorgeous city of Truro and you can take a guided tour of the brewery to see first hand the processes involved in producing their ales, you see a short DVD presentation and then get shown around the site, you can taste the hops as well as seeing the brewing process. The staff are excellent, friendly, animated and knowledgeable they make the tour interesting, humorous and informative. There is a visitor centre where you can relax and enjoy a sample of some of their award winning ales in a traditional pub setting. Skinners Brewery is a fantastic brewery tour, one of the best around and should not be missed even if you are not an ale connoisseur.
Lemon Street Market is a fabulous indoor market that is located in the heart of Truro and is home to a diverse collection of shops, that have an organic, natural, health or renewable theme, a restaurant, cafe and gallery. It is a lovely spot that is lively and bustling with a cosmopolitan feel, you can stroll around soaking up the atmosphere or stop for a bite to eat at the Explorers Restaurant and enjoy a tasty dish from their diverse contemporary menu; where possible ingredients are sourced locally and all food is cooked fresh. You will find the staff to be friendly and the service is very good and the prices are also very good, really reasonable. The Lander Gallery is home to a wonderful collection of Cornish art that blends classic and contemporary art in the one space, all pieces have a Cornish influence resulting in some stunning works of art. It is a lovely bright, contemporary space that is spacious and all pieces are well displayed. Lemon Street Market offers an unrivalled specialist shopping experience as well as being a great place to just hang out.

The Kidz R Us theatre in St. Ives was founded in 1993 by members of the St. Ives Operatic Society. It originally provided a one off performance for charity purposes. After seeing tremendous success, Kidz R Us has gone on to become a local staple in entertainment. More than 50 musicals have been put on since the organisation came to be.

Poppy Cottage Garden is located in the centre of the stunning Roseland Peninsula, the grounds extend to about one acre and provide a riot of colour all through the year. The planting is arranged into a series of rooms, being individual small gardens that are planted with bulbs, herbaceous, grasses, shrubs and exotic plants, that have all been strategically placed, the lawns are immaculate and there are some water features too. The gardens are predominantly colour themed and it is a truly beautiful sight when they are in full bloom and the fragrances that fill the air are delightful. There are plenty of places for you to sit and enjoy the different aspects of the gardens whilst enjoying a cup of coffee and a slice of home-made cake. You will also find a small orchard here with some unusual ducks and chickens that roam around, they are not at all like the ones you normally see. In addition there is a small nursery are with a wide variety of herbaceous plants for sale, excellent quality and well established plants all clearly labelled. The gardens are open most days except Friday and Saturday and there is an entrance charge of £3.50 per person, children are free. The owner is very friendly and really knowledgeable about plants and very hospitable too. Poppy Cottage Garden are delightful gardens with stunning planning and offers plenty of ideas if you are a keen gardener, as well as a lovely escape from the bustle amongst the peace and tranquillity of these gorgeous gardens.
Callestick Farm is situated in the centre of Cornwall, amongst some stunning countryside and where there is plenty of fresh clean air. It is a family run farm and they have being producing their delicious and wholly natural award winning ice cream for the past twenty five years. Using their own pure, wholesome milk and local cream together with a premier fruits and confectionery they produce a range of tempting and luscious ice creams that you will not be able to resist. Cornish Parachute Club is a family run skydive centre located on the cliffs at Perranporth, being unique as it is the only coastal drop zone in the UK. Enterprise Boats is a well established family business offering you boat rides that take you to see some of the most picturesque and beautiful coastlines, in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are three boats in the fleet, they are all similar in specification, length and painted in the same colours with each boat taking over 120 passengers, all are excellently maintained. On board you can get a snacks and hot refreshments and there are toilet facilities as well. They offer a choice of leisurely tours that take you past iconic maritime locations, historic houses and landmarks, take you close to ocean going vessels that are anchored up on the far end of Fal, the scenery is constantly changing. All tours are accompanied by an informative and interesting running commentary from the boat's skipper. You will find the staff to be very friendly and knowledgeable and professional and they are very accommodating and happy to pass on local information on things to see and do. In addition they offer private hire for relaxing evening or day charters. Enterprise Boats offer an alternative way to see this stunning area, the tour from Truro to Falmouth take about an hour and a half. The tours are excellent value for money and there are a choice of options available, tours operate on most days during the season depending on the weather. If in the area take time to do one of these fabulous trips you won't be disappointed.
At low tide you can wander over the causeway on foot to this rugged and fascinating little island, the setting for an extraordinary maritime garden first laid out in the 18th century. At high tide, it's a short boat trip away.
East Pool Mine is located at the centre of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site, over two sites that are only about five hundred metres apart, where you will find here a great representation of the former and powerful mining industrial heritage of the area. The main site is East Pool mine that is home to two large beam engines that were powered by high-pressure steam boilers. They are maintained in the towering engine houses and serve as a reflection of Cornwall's days as a world renowned centre of industry, engineering and innovation. The pumping engine here is the biggest remaining Cornish beam engine in the world. The restored winding engine can be seen operating each day. The Discovery Centre offers the opportunity to watch films, see a number of interesting and informative displays and models, and there are knowledgeable guides who have an in depth knowledgeable of the history of Cornish mining and will impart the dramatic history of the area and a number of interesting stories. It is a great family and hands on attraction with special activities to entertain children, including dressing up, and they are able to interact and touch many of the exhibits. There is a small area near reception where you can get tea and coffee, also located here is a small shop that sells a nice choice of mining related items and local history books. Being an old mine there are a number of steps and uneven pathways so might not be suitable for everyone. East Pool Mine is open during the week and at certain weekend days during the year, there is a charge for entry and full details are on the Website.
Wheal Peevor is an amazing ancient tin mine site located close to Redruth. The site underwent restoration to make it a safe, educational and enjoyable area for visitors. Work was needed to make the twelve mineshafts safe as well as the three Grade II listed engine houses. There is much to explore here from the three engine houses, remains of mining relics, to the network of tracks and trails that cover the site as well as a great selection of flora and fauna. As you wander around you will come across finder points and interpretation boards that provide a detailed and comprehensive history of the site. It has an interesting history playing an important role during World War One. The engine houses are predominantly ruins but you can get feel of how it would have been, the mineshafts are impressive with some shafts extending to 600ft. There is no admission charge for Wheal Peevor and it is accessible at all times. From its vantage point you get fabulous views of the surrounding countryside, and can enjoy the peacefulness of the area and the lovely walks it provides.
Truro Cathedral is an immediately recognisable landmark on the landscape, the towers can be seen for miles around, located in the centre of the city it is easy to locate this beautiful architectural building, with its many fine features. The Cathedral has a long history and incorporates part of an old church dating to at least 1259, the first stone for the current Cathedral was laid in May 1880 with work finishing in 1887. Inside a sense of peace and reflection emits from the building which is very calming. The inside is equally as stunning as the exterior having undergone considerable restoration, there are fantastic stained glass windows, spectacular woodwork and carvings, intricate plasterwork, it is so ornate and beautiful, real craftsmanship is on display here. There are guided tours operated by experienced guides who will tell you all about the intriguing history of the Cathedral, they are both friendly and knowledgeable. The Cathedral is open every day throughout the year so visiting couldn't be easier. There is no charge to enter the Cathedral but they do rely on donations and there are boxes around where a donation can be made. Another way of helping is buying one of the guidebooks which are on sale in the gift shop or perhaps a coffee from the coffee shop. Truro Cathedral is a simply stunning historic building with many wonderful features and a rich history too, it is a lovely place to walk around soaking up the tranquil atmosphere and history.
