The Cove - 3.2 Miles (5.1 KM)
The dining philosophy is to provide guests with the very best dining experience. Menus are simple — based on fresh seasonal produce, as much as possible sourced from the local area.
Situated on the harbour head in the fishing port of Porthleven, and recently recognised by Michelin and the AA, Kota specialises in organic local fish dishes and many of the meals come with a Asian twist.

Although dating from the 13th century, the inn was named after the ship sent to Tahiti to capture the mutineers of Captain Bligh's Bounty. Take afternoon tea at the end of the pontoon, or sit under beamed ceilings for an evening meal of tasty, locally sourced food.

From June to September the seas around Cornwall are home to hundreds of Basking sharks. They are best seen from one of the Basking shark watching boats that work out of Penzance.
Imaginative exhibitions of paintings, sculpture, textiles and jewellery, many of which follow a theme that links us to our environment, are held from Easter to the end of October.

Paradise Park is an award winning park that is located on the edge of Hayle. Owing to its protected location it offers the ideal environment for the tropical wildlife and plants to thrive here. The park is friendly and welcoming and is home to a wealth of attractions and activities for all the family to enjoy as well as serving as a Conservation project. The Jungle Barn indoor play centre offers hours of fun. There are lots of exotic and rare and unusual birds and animals here, many having being rescued, they are well cared for and appear to be happy. The free bird shows are entertaining and exciting with the birds getting close to you. In addition there are lots of daily events such as feeding time, displays and talks there is something for everyone. The kids farm is great and you can get close to, touch and even feed the animals, there are two play areas, a train and much more. The gardens are beautiful and there is lots of stunning and colourful plants that emit lovely aromas, with lots of benches to sit on, providing a nice relaxed environment. Staff are friendly and will happily answer any questions you have. The Otter Pool Cafe is warm and welcoming and offers a nice selection of drinks, hot and cold dishes and snacks, at reasonable prices. The Gift Shop offers a nice choice of gifts and related souvenirs that are also reasonably priced and there is something to suit all budgets. Paradise park does a great job, it is well kept and very clean and the animals appear to be happy, prices are very reasonable for all that is on offer here, there is something for everyone and makes for a great family day out, highly recommended.
Located inside the Flora Centre, this luxurious, modern single screen cinema may not always show the very latest films, but there's always a selection of recent films as well as bargain shows for family films.
Head to Flambards for a fun day out for all the family. With a theme park with many rides and attractions, magicians, popular children's TV show guests such as Peppa Pig, exhibitions and the Victorian Village you'll find lots to see and do.
This recreational park was once part of a wealthy mining family's estate. It now hosts a variety of facilities including an orienteering course, BBQ area and events field. There are numerous walks around the park and its lake.
A visit to the seal sanctuary in picturesque Helston estuary makes a fantastic family day out. In addition to grey and common seals, they also house fur seals and Californian and Patagonian Sea Lions as well as other rescued sea creatures such as dolphins.
A 200 seat theatre and cinema space, three art galleries and large educational space. It offers a regular programme of films, live theatre including dramas, musicals, ballet, pantomimes, bands and groups.
This year round entertainment venue has something for everyone. Enjoy some live music on the patio overlooking the gardens or even a flamenco lesson. If you're lucky, you may catch one of the main events throughout the year including the Real Ale festival where you can enjoy many a drink in the bar. There's also a cafe.

Beach
Bring your camera because you will want to capture the scene found at Porthminster Beach! This exquisite outdoor location features a crescent shaped stretch of fine sandy beach. The golden grains are complemented by a beautiful azure coast line and a view of the Godrevy Lighthouse. It's everything a traveller could want and more!
Porthmeor Beach offers an outstanding view that will take your breath away! You'll love relaxing by the seashore as you enjoy the area known as the "jewel of the South West." A rocky beach that is great for walks set in a splendid harbour. Stroll around the boats before heading onto the cliff tops and walk to Chynhalls Point or head north to Lowland Point.
Kynance Cove - 23.5 Miles (37.6 KM)
Against a dramatic cliff backdrop, turquoise waters make Kynance Cove the ideal beach for swimmers. Popular since Victorian times, it is now owned by the National Trust who conserve its natural beauty and keep it safe.
Gunwalloe Church Cove - 23.5 Miles (37.6 KM)
An interesting and somewhat unusual beach with a fascinating church at its northern side. It is situated on the Lizard Peninsula near Helston and has a golf course to its east. Explore some other coves whilst there and go for a wander around the church.
Helford Passage - 25.6 Miles (41 KM)
A great place to take the family, safe, secluded with a good Inn nearby. Make some sandcastles, go for a walk or sit back and admire the scenery.
Gyllyngvase Beach - 25.9 Miles (41.4 KM)
A wide and popular sandy beach on the outskirts of Falmouth, that is also a favourite location for watersports enthusiasts. In the summer the beach is populated by the town's sun worshippers.
Maenporth Beach - 25.9 Miles (41.4 KM)
Located between the Helford River and Falmouth, the beach is nicely sheltered with low cliffs making it popular with sun seekers and swimmers. Learn to dive or try your hand at windsurfing! If you're not much of a water sports enthusiast go for a walk along the impressive cliffs to Rosemullion Head.
Castle Beach - 25.9 Miles (41.4 KM)
Watched over by Pendennis Castle, this charming south facing beach is a real hidden gem. Why not take a picnic and soak up the sun with the family for the day? Explore the local rock pools and do a spot of crabbing.
Cadgwith Beach - 26.1 Miles (41.8 KM)
Cadgwith is actually two small beaches separated by a small narrow headland known as the Todden. Known as Little Cove, one is the 'pleasure' beach and the second is a working beach, usually full of at least 10 or so fishing boats.
Biking & Hiking
Starting at Land's End the route passes through Penzance, Hayle, Cambourne and Redruth. Near Truro, you can opt to head south to Mevagissey, St Austell and The Eden Project or continue on to Bodmin.
A walk recommended by the National Trust, this trail includes areas particularly good for seeing wildlife, viewing the spectacular scenery and for visiting places of historical interest. Ranked easy to moderate at about 3 miles, this is a great route to do at a leisurely pace soaking up the amazing scenery as you go.
This 11 mile long-distance footpath and cycle trail links the historic mining harbours of Portreath in the North and Devoran in the South. The trail is mostly off-road and should take about five hours to walk. You can hire bikes at Bissoe, Nancekuke or Portreath.
Golf & Sports
This 18-hole course commands spectacular views over the ocean. A very well drained truly natural course, it's a par 70 challenge with cliff tops, dry stone walls and an ancient mine shaft to negotiate.
Built upon a traditional bathing spot at the Battery Rocks near the harbour at Penzance, and cleverly designed to cope with the full ferocity of the Cornish seas, the pool makes a very pleasant spot for a swim.
Another way to explore the countryside and beaches of Cornwall is on horseback — a mode of transport ideally suited to the tranquillity and beauty of the area.
Hayle Golf Range is located in the beautiful location of Hayle within stunning Cornwall countryside. It is a friendly and welcoming centre and the staff are great, professional, amicable and helpful. It has nineteen fully lit, all weather bays offering a safe and protected area to practise your swing and drive. It comes with targets to test your accuracy as well as distance markers. Next to the range is a 12-hole course with a selection of holes that range in length offering the ideal environment to test your skills. The course is scenic, the greens are in good condition, holes are mostly par 3 or 4 but there are a few 5's and it offers challenges to golfers of all abilities. They provide all equipment so you don't need to take anything along. Other facilities available here are a fully-equipped training suite, state of the art indoor golf simulator, pro shop and a new addition is the Croquet Golf course, mini golf with a croquet twist, it offers a fun activity that all the family can play and enjoy. They are open daily from 9.30am, closing times vary but, full details are on the website. The prices are very reasonable and offer great value. Hayle Golf Range offers everything a golfer could need on one site, long opening hours, great prices and lovely scenery a wonderful spot to visit to hone your golfing skills or enjoy a short game.
Gwinear Pitch and Putt is located in an idyllic location in Reawla within in ten acres of beautiful countryside. This short 18 hole course is well designed and well maintained and has lovely landscaping. It is an excellent pitch and putt course with defined tees, interesting holes, fast fairways, semi rough and rough and the greens are through, it is more like a golf course. The course is challenging but fun. There is no need to book or take along any equipment everything is supplied here. Prices are very reasonable adults play for £7 and children up to 14 are only £4 for a round. There is a nice clubhouse cafe that is welcoming and cosy, where you can relax after a round and enjoy the hospitality and delicious range of hot and cold dishes, snacks and beverages that are all made using local Cornish produce and are real value for money. There is also a nice terrace area for those nice sunny days. They are open From February through to October from 10.00am until dusk each day. Gwinear Pitch and Putt offers a fun and enjoyable round of golf within a beautiful location, excellent hospitality, customer service and prices too, a real gem, highly recommended.

Nature Reserves
With commanding views over the stunning St Michael's Mount, this beautiful marshland has Cornwall's largest reedbed. There are over 250 species of bird and more than 500 plant varieties to be found on the site.
The Lizard - 23.5 Miles (37.6 KM)
The most southerly peninsula in England, the Lizard has high cliffs making it a popular area for gannet watching. During times of migration, it is also a good place to see swallows, swifts, warblers and flycatchers. In the winter months turnstones and purple sandpipers often come up to the shoreline, and in spring oystercatchers can also be found.
In winter, many birds flock to this reservoir including wigeon, coot, tufted duck, poachard and Canada geese. In the spring, a large number of sand martins, house martins and swallows frequent the area.
Part of the Fal Estuary, The area known as the Carrick Roads is so deep it regularly attracts great numbers of sea-going birds in the winter. Looe beach near Feoch seems to offer the best access for viewing one of the largest flocks of wintering Black Neck Grebes in the UK
Gardens & Woodlands
Potager is a new organic garden displaying an informal mix of herbaceous planting accentuated with vegetables and fruit. Visit this little oasis tucked away with mature trees and a tranquil environment. Play some games, relax, have a go at tennis, read a good book or enjoy some delicious homemade cakes.
The micro-climate in which Bosahan Garden is situated allows for a mixture of plants from both hemispheres. Look out for rhododendrons, magnolias, exotic palm groves and Maidenhair trees. Take a walk through this lovely setting.
A delightful valley garden set above the Helford River; Glendurgan provides a warm and sheltered setting for exotic trees, flowers and shrubs. There's also a laurel maze and a 'Giant's Stride' maypole.
Set in a Cornish valley this sub-tropical garden offers a year round experience to visitors.
Enys Garden - 27.4 Miles (43.8 KM)
Tender trees and plants flourish at Enys, one of the oldest gardens in Cornwall. Robert de Enys lived here during the reign of Edward I, and in 1709, the garden was noted for its fine planting. Today's garden is based on the designs of 1833.
Local Attractions
Godrevy Head is located at the far end of St Ives Bay. The coastline here is breathtaking and the area is so tranquil and peaceful. It offers the opportunity to see a seal colony that reside here in the cove, they often come onto the beach to stretch out and bask in the sunshine, make sure to take along a pair of binoculars to get the best views of them. It also offers lovely walks along the cliff tops, the sand or amongst the dunes. Children will love searching out stones and shells, or examining the rock pools. It is also home to lots of different species of birds and gorgeous wild flowers. Just off the coast is the lighthouse that served as inspiration for Virginia Woolf. It can get busy as it is a very popular spot especially during the summer months. There is a nice cafe on site serving a good choice of beverages and snacks, cakes as well as hot and cold dishes, that are all freshly prepared and are great value, it has a nice outdoor seating area for those warm days. On nice days an ice cream van visits the area. Godrevy Head is a simply stunning spot and offers the best views, walks and wildlife and it can be enjoyed whatever the weather and makes for a great day out for everyone.
Kidz R Us - 13.5 Miles (21.6 KM)
The Kidz R Us theatre in St. Ives was founded in 1993 by members of the St. Ives Operatic Society. It originally provided a one off performance for charity purposes. After seeing tremendous success, Kidz R Us has gone on to become a local staple in entertainment. More than 50 musicals have been put on since the organisation came to be.
The charming Boathouse Theatre offers a unique entertainment experience that is often overlooked. This performing arts venue hosts a number of engaging shows. The 7th Rise offer an alternative outdoor experience, if you have ever considered or thought about getting back to basics and learning how to survive in the wilderness then look no further. 7th Rise are based in a magical setting amongst the trees in stunning surroundings next to the River Fal in Cornwall, it even has its own beach and the area provides all that is needed to teach you the techniques needed to survive in the wilderness. The ATV Centre offers you the opportunity to take part in a fun sport that is growing in popularity. They have the biggest selection of Quads and one of the best circuits around, the track extends to over a mile with long runs, jumps, tight corners and banked corners. They provide all the equipment which, is well maintained and clean, you are advised to wear long sleeve trousers and tops and closed shoes for your own safety. The staff are very friendly and helpful, they are all highly trained and professional. Before commencing you are given full tuition and a safety briefing. Whether you are a complete novice or an experienced rider there is a quad and circuit to suit you. It is an activity that all the family or a group can take part in, there are particular quads for those aged six upwards. The ATV Centre offers a safe and controlled environment to enjoy this exciting and thrilling sport in an very organised environment. There are benches at the side or on the footbridge where you can observe the riders or take some photos. The centre is open daily throughout the year and offers excellent value for money, highly recommended if you are looking for a fun and exciting activity.
Historical & Heritage Sites
A collection from the 1830s onwards of the telegraph company records from England and around the world. The museum is located in World War II tunnels built to guard against enemy bombs and houses an incredible array of working equipment from the war years. Well worth a visit.
The largest preserved mining site in the UK, Geevor was, until 1900, a working tin mine. Now a museum with many surface buildings, it offers guided underground tours through 18th and 19th century workings.
At low tide you can wander over the causeway on foot to this rugged and fascinating little island, the setting for an extraordinary maritime garden first laid out in the 18th century. At high tide, it's a short boat trip away.

The Wills Lane Gallery presents a beautiful collection of fine art pieces that showcase the creativity and individuality of the human mind. The medium varies, with some exhibits featuring everything from pearls and metal to watercolour, sculpture, photographs, ceramics and drawings. This gallery showcases many skilled artists in the area of contemporary fine art.
The St. Ives Museum in Cornwall is the perfect place to learn more about the thriving community of Downlong. Even the building is rich in local history, having once served as a Pilchard curing cellar. It later went on to become a Bible Christian chapel before taking on the more mundane tasks of laundry and cinema. Today it operates as an independent museum.
Tate - 13.7 Miles (21.9 KM)
Tate is a fascinating place managed by fascinating people. This unique organisation manages the national collection of British art that dates as far back as the 1500s as well as collections in contemporary and international modern art. The project list is diverse and includes everything from learning and research to conservation efforts.
East Pool Mine is located at the centre of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site, over two sites that are only about five hundred metres apart, where you will find here a great representation of the former and powerful mining industrial heritage of the area. The main site is East Pool mine that is home to two large beam engines that were powered by high-pressure steam boilers. They are maintained in the towering engine houses and serve as a reflection of Cornwall's days as a world renowned centre of industry, engineering and innovation. The pumping engine here is the biggest remaining Cornish beam engine in the world. The restored winding engine can be seen operating each day. The Discovery Centre offers the opportunity to watch films, see a number of interesting and informative displays and models, and there are knowledgeable guides who have an in depth knowledgeable of the history of Cornish mining and will impart the dramatic history of the area and a number of interesting stories. It is a great family and hands on attraction with special activities to entertain children, including dressing up, and they are able to interact and touch many of the exhibits. There is a small area near reception where you can get tea and coffee, also located here is a small shop that sells a nice choice of mining related items and local history books. Being an old mine there are a number of steps and uneven pathways so might not be suitable for everyone. East Pool Mine is open during the week and at certain weekend days during the year, there is a charge for entry and full details are on the Website.
Wheal Peevor is an amazing ancient tin mine site located close to Redruth. The site underwent restoration to make it a safe, educational and enjoyable area for visitors. Work was needed to make the twelve mineshafts safe as well as the three Grade II listed engine houses. There is much to explore here from the three engine houses, remains of mining relics, to the network of tracks and trails that cover the site as well as a great selection of flora and fauna. As you wander around you will come across finder points and interpretation boards that provide a detailed and comprehensive history of the site. It has an interesting history playing an important role during World War One. The engine houses are predominantly ruins but you can get feel of how it would have been, the mineshafts are impressive with some shafts extending to 600ft. There is no admission charge for Wheal Peevor and it is accessible at all times. From its vantage point you get fabulous views of the surrounding countryside, and can enjoy the peacefulness of the area and the lovely walks it provides.
Enterprise Boats is a well established family business offering you boat rides that take you to see some of the most picturesque and beautiful coastlines, in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are three boats in the fleet, they are all similar in specification, length and painted in the same colours with each boat taking over 120 passengers, all are excellently maintained. On board you can get a snacks and hot refreshments and there are toilet facilities as well. They offer a choice of leisurely tours that take you past iconic maritime locations, historic houses and landmarks, take you close to ocean going vessels that are anchored up on the far end of Fal, the scenery is constantly changing. All tours are accompanied by an informative and interesting running commentary from the boat's skipper. You will find the staff to be very friendly and knowledgeable and professional and they are very accommodating and happy to pass on local information on things to see and do. In addition they offer private hire for relaxing evening or day charters. Enterprise Boats offer an alternative way to see this stunning area, the tour from Truro to Falmouth take about an hour and a half. The tours are excellent value for money and there are a choice of options available, tours operate on most days during the season depending on the weather. If in the area take time to do one of these fabulous trips you won't be disappointed.
