This spacious holiday property opposite the River Wear in the small village of Wearhead offers superb holiday accommodation. Spectacular walks lead from the door in every direction in Weardale – ’the ‘last wilderness’. High Force, England’s highest waterfall with a 21m drop, is well worth a visit, as well as visitor centres and nature reserves in the local area. Weardale Ski Club is nearby and offers weather alerts when snow is due. The Durham Dales are England’s best kept secret, with a multitude of historic sites, Barnard Castle, Raby Castle, Killhope Lead Mining Museum (small visitor attraction of the year 2008) only 2 miles away. Close to the C2C cycle route, and great mountain biking down hill courses through Hamsterly Forest with bike hire for all ages less than half an hour away. A great area for shooting grouse and pheasant, with fishing on the Wear for salmon and sea trout on the doorstep. Hadrian’s Wall running from Newcastle to Hexham is within ½ hour’s drive. Beamish Open Air Museum, the O2 arena and the annual Great North Run at Newcastle are within 0.75 hour’s drive. Ideal base for both Newcastle and Sunderland arenas.
