Bury St Edmunds, with its cathedral and abbey ruins, also offers outstanding examples of Georgian architecture, particularly the Theatre Royal, built in 1819, a rare example of a Georgian playhouse. National Trust properties can be found at nearby Ickworth Park and Anglesey Abbey and Gardens.
