Built in 1390 and reputedly the hunting lodge of Henry VII, this spacious thatched Wealden Hall House is timbered throughout. It boasts a pair of inglenook fireplaces, a large living room and a separate library. The traditional cottage garden is secluded at the back for al-fresco dining, with a stable door to the kitchen. The two double bedrooms are hung with Indian tapestries. Both these, and the twin bedroom, extend into the beamed roof. The historic and picturesque village of Lindfield has over 70 listed buildings, an array of independent shops (including butcher, greengrocer and delicatessen), four pubs and two restaurants. Haywards Heath is a short bus ride away, with trains to London (45 minutes) and Brighton (15 minutes). Close by are many NT houses and gardens, golf courses, the South Downs National Park and the Ashdown Forest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Shop and pub 500 yards.
