A splendid holiday property set in magnificent gardens; first-prize holder in the Daily Mail 1995 National Gardens Competition, and featured in several publications including Homes and Gardens, The Sunday Times, The English Garden and Homes & Antiques as well as television’s Out and About series. Situated just off the cobbled square in Richmond and with countryside views, it possesses tremendous character, style and space. The restored Coach House is separately set within the shared gardens of the owner’s home, which are open to the general public between April 1st - October 31st. The ancient town of Richmond, at the gateway to Swaledale, has an unfinished 11th-century castle and an excellent market place. The town is a hive of activity, offering a theatre, shops, inns, restaurants and a host of other town amenities. A riverside footpath leads gently to Easby Abbey, with some parts still remaining. Other historic and religious sites in the area include Bolton Castle, Jervaulx Abbey and Coverham Abbey. Within driving distance are Scotch Corner and Catterick (once the home to a Roman camp), and Kiplin Hall is well worth a visit. Ripon is home to Fountains Abbey, Britain’s largest and most beautiful monastic ruin which has the added bonus of being the focal point of Studley Royal, an 18th-century landscaped garden complete with lake, temples, water garden and deer park. The scenic splendour of the Dales is easily accessible, providing good walking, cycling and riding terrain.
A little further afield are the bustling Tyne towns of Newcastle and Durham, both excellent for their great shops, markets, restaurants and bars. Durham is also famous for its majestic 12th-century cathedral, medieval castle and university – the third oldest in England. Below the castle and cathedral are the wooded banks of the River Wear, where riverside walks can be enjoyed, passing a succession of elegant bridges with fine vantage points over the town. Shops 200 yards.

Set separately within the grounds, this charming property has five en-suite bedrooms and a spacious first floor sitting-room to take advantage of lovely views. Ground floor: Dining hall. Country kitchen. Cloakroom and toilet. Double bedroom with en-suite bathroom and toilet. First floor: Double bedroom with en-suite shower room and toilet. Two twin bedrooms, each with en-suite bathroom and toilet. Second floor: Beamed sitting-room with gas ‘living-flame’ fire and views to the castle and the river. French doors to upper level garden. Twin bedroom with en-suite bathroom and toilet.
