Dating back to 1812, this beautiful, quirky, thatched property, forming the major part of the original vicarage and one of a pair, is the perfect location for a family holiday or for friends to get together. Described by the Georgian Group, dedicated to preserving buildings from this period, as ‘one of the very best examples of the cottage orne genre in the country’. On entering this Grade II* listed property, guests cannot help but be impressed with the large 24ft circular reception hall, containing a 600 year old ruud screen, reputedly conferscated from Kingsteignton chuch 200 years ago, this is the door way into a 10 sided dining room. Leading off the reception hall is an elegant sweeping cantilevered staircase rising to the galleried landing. Natural light is admitted through a rooftop lantern cupola positioned directly over the reception hall and landing. There are many original features within the property, including the Gothic windows, door alcoves and the doors leading to the dining room which are 600 years old. Approached via a sweeping driveway passing a gatehouse, the secluded gardens feature a cobbled terrace beneath the veranda and a wide variety of established trees, shrubs and plants. Directly from the rear of the breakfast room, a 10ft by 20ft plunge pool occupies a completely private position with a timber decked terrace. A shaped lawn adjoins the terrace having a flagged patio under a gazebo, making this area of the garden ideal for entertaining and al fresco dining. Although close to a road, the property offers privacy. The property has been decorated and furnished to a very good standard, and offers spacious themed bedrooms, including chrome, Greek, African, Arabian and flowers. There are many beaches within a short drive, and Dartmoor is approximately 20 minutes away. The Times newspaper voted Dawlish Warren as one of the ‘Top Ten Places by the Sea’, and is part of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With plenty to see and do, Dawlish Warren ticks all the boxes if you’re looking for a traditional seaside holiday. As part of the Exe Estuary, Dawlish Warren is one of the most important areas for wildlife and wading birds in the country. Thousands of birds come to feed or to spend the winter here, attracting bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts. The surrounding dunes and grassland are home to over 600 types of flowering plants. Dawlish Warren is internationally recognised as an important ecological site. From here, gain access to the various hides dotted throughout the habitats on-site. Shaldon beach is where visitors will find some of the most spectacular coastline in South Devon. Because of its location and the way the sands have formed, it’s perfect for a number of water sports, including sailing, fishing, swimming, canoeing and rowing, Shaldon is close to attractions such as the Shaldon Wildlife Trust, Dartmoor and Haytor and Homeyards Botanical Gardens. Alternatively, visitors can challenge themselves on the Templar Way, an 18-mile walk that follows the export route for granite taken from Dartmoor, passing along the Haytor Granite tramway and the Stover Canal, before finally passing through Newton Abbot towards Teignmouth and Shaldon. There are many NT properties close by, including Agatha Christie’s summer home at Greenway. Paignton Zoo, Model Village, Cockington, Sea life Centre, Brixham, Dartmouth and Dartmoor are all close by. Exeter, with its magnificent cathedral, is a mere 20-minute drive, where visitors can browse the many shops and cafes, or take a boat trip up the river to tucked away pubs. Visit Crealy Adventure Park, ideal for a family day out, or at Haldon there are many cycle ways and Go Ape. Beach 4 miles. Shop 500 yards, pub 200 yards.
