Built over the site of the original boathouse, on a bend in the River Dart, it commands fascinating and panoramic views up river towards the town and Naval College and down to the open sea. The Boat House is fashioned similar to a luxury liner, with the ‘cabins’ fully panelled in light sycamore, making it a perfect holiday home for lovers of all things nautical. The saloon features a huge bay window which overhangs the river taking full advantage of the views. The ancient port of Dartmouth enjoys a charming mix of old buildings, including the 17th-century Butterwalk (with museum), a splendid castle (English Heritage) set on the rocks at the river entrance, and regular ferries across to Kingswear. The river throngs with pleasure craft and yachts, and offers good sailing and cruises to Totnes, taking in the beautiful scenery of the wooded valley. Charming Totnes has a wealth of ancient buildings, good shopping for antiques, crafts and gifts, and an Elizabethan Tuesday market. From Dartmouth the steam railway runs along the coast to the lively seaside resort of Paignton. Local places of interest include Greenaway (home of Agatha Christie), Coleton Fishacre (NT), Bowden House, the Butterfly Farm near Buckfastleigh, and Paignton Zoo. Along the coast are some splendid beaches, including Blackpool Sands, and excellent walks on the South West Coast Path. Just a few miles inland lies the Dartmoor National Park, with a wonderfully varied landscape of mountains, moors, combes and woods. The area is rich in archaeological remains, and is also excellent riding country. Shops 100 yards, many bars and restaurants within 200 yards.

Two flights of steps down to level entrance on first floor: Living room with wood-burning stove, large bay window and door to wooden balcony with external stairs down to garden. Panelled dining room. Spacious fitted kitchen with stripped pine floors and maple units. Master double bedroom with 6ft bed and full length patio doors to balcony. Adjoining bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet. Two further double bedrooms, each with 6ft bed and wash basin. Bunk bedroom with full-size, hand crafted sycamore beds and wash basin. Second bathroom with large Victorian bath, over-bath shower and toilet. All rooms lead onto the balcony surrounding the house and have the benefit of magnificent river views. Open-tread, spiral staircase to ground floor: Large games room with TV and table tennis and patio doors to garden.
