Just a stone’s throw away from the top of the West Hill in Hastings, this attractive, semi-detached townhouse offers well-thought-out holiday accommodation and an underground gated parking space. From the garden you can even enjoy views of the sea! The ruins of Hastings Castle can be glimpsed from one of the bedroom windows – Britain’s first Norman castle, built in 1086 by Duke William of Normandy after his success at The Battle of Hastings in 1066 which in fact took place some 6 miles to the northwest. From the top of the West Hill, guests can see France on a clear day and look down on the old narrow streets and rooftops of Hastings Old Town. The South Downs at Eastbourne and Beachy Head can be seen in the distance. There are many caves on the West Hill, which, rumour has it, were all used by smugglers to store contraband from Europe. Visit St Clements Caves, which are about ½ mile away and discover the smugglers of 200 years ago that frequented the area. The Old Town with its antique shops, book dealers, boutiques and café culture offers a bohemian atmosphere and can be easily accessed via the West Hill Cliff Funicular Railway, which takes you straight down into the town, also offering access to the beach. There is access via steps for the more athletic! The East Hill lift operates from Hastings Country Park to The Stade, where the fishing fleet is launched from the beach and the iconic net huts can be seen. Rye and Camber Sands are a short drive away. Good rail connections from Hastings to London. Beach ½ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.
