These two period holiday cottages (refs 29662 and 29663) are situated on the owner’s beautifully maintained farm outside Newent, in a quintessentially unspoilt English area. The properties provide a romantic retreat with all the comforts for a relaxing holiday in the quiet, idyllic surroundings of peaceful countryside. Each property offers a welcome pack which includes milk, a local bottle of wine, a bottle of Middletown Farm apple juice, cereal and biscuits, along with the usual tea, coffee and sugar. Anything else can be requested for an extra charge, including a home cooked meal. The countryside provides a mixture of market gardens, rolling farmland hills, vineyards and black and white timbered buildings. They are conveniently located to the north of the Forest of Dean and west of Cheltenham and Gloucester. The nearest town is Newent, 2½ miles, an attractive, unspoilt town which has buildings dating back to the 13th century and a half-timbered market house which are all part of the town centre conservation area. Newent Lake is a tranquil attraction that offers a home to a diverse range of wildlife. It is also home to the world famous Onion Fayre and is the birthplace of Joe Meek, the legendary 60’s maverick record producer. The town has 3 supermarkets, a library and an interesting selection of local shops. There is a delightful, old fashioned sweet shop, a clock shop, a lovely gift shop and a country clothes shop. There is also a good selection of pubs and cafes. Just outside Newent, there is the International Birds of Prey Centre and several vineyards. The city of Gloucester is 10 miles away and is one of the country’s most breathtaking cathedral stands. A few minutes’ walk away, visitors can enter another world, with ships of all shapes and sizes in the dramatic setting of the Victorian Docks. For keen shoppers with an eye for a designer bargain, Gloucester Quays, with its designer outlet shopping and waterside bars and restaurants, provides the perfect day out. Cheltenham Spa is 16 miles away, an elegant Regency town with a theatre and beautiful shops and buildings. There is also the famous Cheltenham Racecourse which holds many festivals, the most famous being the Cheltenham Festival of Racing and the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Middletown Farm is also a great base for exploring the Forest of Dean, Wye Valley, the Cotswolds, Malvern Hills and the Welsh Borders. Horse riding and golf can be found locally.
