1 Old Hall Cottage (ref 30417) and 2 Old Hall Cottage (ref 30418) are delightful semi-detached stone holiday cottages converted from Grade II listed buildings. Hall Farm Cottage is a detached 500-year-old barn conversion adjacent to The Old Hall, originally Byers Hall, home of Robert Trotter in 1400s, but a predated inhabited site. The Old Hall (ref 30419) stands above the River Wear, with uninterrupted views towards Durham and Weardale from the three acre shared wooded walled garden. The site is free from traffic on an ancient track, less than 100 yards from one of the best fishing rivers (permits available). The surroundings are a rich haven for birds and wildlife, with ‘hidden seats’ in fields and by the River Wear for you to enjoy. The owner has three friendly and inquisitive cats, which you are likely to encounter while you are here. Both the historic City of Durham (UK mainline station) and Bishop Auckland (home of the Prince Bishops at Auckland Castle) and Binchester Roman Fort are a 15-minute drive. The location is on the edge of the beautiful Durham Dales - Weardale and Teesdale - with footpaths, cycle tracks, and winter skiing; splendour at Raby Castle and Bowes Museum; industrial heritage at Killhope, Beamish and Shildon. Keilder Water, Hadrian’s Wall, the Northumberland coast and Lake District to be explored on longer days out. Shop and restaurant 2 miles, pub ¼ mile.
