This well-presented, stone-built, semi-detached cottage adjoins the owner’s home and lies on the edge of the ancient market town of Appleby-in-Westmorland. Oak Cottage provides warm and cosy accommodation, in ‘upside down’ style. It stands at the top of the picturesque main street which links the well-preserved Norman castle with the fine medieval Church of St Lawrence. The spacious, mature garden provides an ideal area for dining al fresco, whilst all the amenities of the town, including pubs and restaurants, are all within a few minutes’ walk of the cottage. Situated close to open countryside, with many fine and interesting walks, this property makes an ideal base for exploring all the beauty of both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. There are numerous walking and cycling opportunities as well as the fantastic leisure centre in the town. For touring and sightseeing, the nearby attractions of the famous Settle-Carlisle Railway line and the Eden Valley are also within easy reach. Penrith is 14 miles. The historic town of Appleby-in-Westmorland lies in a loop of the River Eden and is overlooked by the Pennine range with the Lake District Fells showing on the western horizon. Set at the heart of the lush Eden Valley and steeped in history, this is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is nestled between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales, so guests can enjoy the contrasting scenery of these two National Parks. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and still today many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the historic and awe-inspiring Ribblehead Viaduct. Visit Appleby in June and experience the atmosphere of the 300-year old horse fair. With the delightful Ullswater and the magnificent Lake District within easy reach, this is an ideal holiday location. Shops and pubs 100 yards.
