This stunning B listed country house, dating back to 1817, was once the seat of the McGorrie Lamonts and has huge historical importance throughout the area. Fabulously restored and divided into apartments(refs SYYE, SYYF, SYYG and SYYH), Knockdow House offers a superb level of holiday accommodation and is located on a 6000-acre estate on the Cowal Peninsula. Throughout the estate there are beautiful landscaped gardens, ponds, river, fishing loch (fly fishing by prior arrangement) and woodland and coastal walks, with a diverse range of fauna and flora. Wildlife is abundant, with red squirrel, otters, roe deer and large variety of birdlife, including hen harriers, buzzards and eagles. Seals, otters and porpoises are also seen regularly throughout the area. Located on Argyll’s Secret Coast, Knockdow House is tucked away in a small corner of Argyll on the west coast of Scotland and is an area of stunning natural beauty, with hills, glens, rugged coastlines, white beaches, clear waters and ancient forests. Argyll’s Secret Coast is packed with places to visit and things to do, and sailors, walkers, cyclists and artists are all drawn to this area for its natural beauty. Explore the forests and coastline by foot, bike, kayak or boat. The whole area is steeped in Highland history and dotted with ruins, castles and ancient sites. Close by is Dunoon, which has a good selection of shops and restaurants, a cinema and swimming pool. Dunoon is of course the home of the Cowal Gathering, one of the largest and most spectacular Highland games in the world. There is a fantastic range of outdoor leisure activities in the area, including sailing, fishing, windsurfing, speed boat tours, quad biking, clay shooting and much more. Just a short drive away is Portavadie, with its marina and the ferry over to Tarbert, where visitors can explore the Kintyre Peninsula, with ferries to the islands of Islay, Juray and Arran. Beach 200 yards. Shop and pub 2 miles.

First floor: Open-plan living room with kitchen area. Double bedroom with 6ft zip & link bed and en-suite bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet. Further double bedroom with 5ft bed and en-suite bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet.
