Situated in the heart of the quintessential English village of Aldborough, overlooking the village green, this detached, 19th-century cottage offers enchanting holiday accommodation. There are two living rooms, a study and a large kitchen with an open fire. Externally, there is a traditional, south-facing, enclosed walled garden to unwind in. The tranquil village is steeped in history, with parts of the Roman defences and two spectacular mosaic pavements are on view at the English Heritage Museum in the village. The red and blue striped maypole, formerly a ship’s mast, is permanently situated on the green ready for the annual Mayday fête. The village also hosts a prestigious classical music event in June, the Northern Aldborough Festival. There is a friendly village pub and the neighbouring town of Boroughbridge has several inns, shops and restaurants. The area is popular with walkers and cyclists, and is an ideal base from which to explore Knaresborough, Harrogate, Ripon and York. Local attractions include Fountains Abbey, Newby Hall and Sutton Bank, and family fun can be found at Lightwater Valley and Brimham Rocks. The Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors are easily accessible. Shop 11/2 miles, pub and restaurant 500 yards.
