Edington Lodge is situated in an enviable location, on the high street of Edington, located at the foot of the Polden Hills, between Bridgwater and Glastonbury, and close to the Shapwick Heath, Catcott and Westhay Nature Reserves, which claims to be the earliest known track in Europe, if not in the world, dating back to around 4000BC which linked the Poldens with the Island of Westhay.
This semi-detached holiday property was built in the 15th century and has been decorated and furnished to a very good standard. There are many character features, including a covered well in the ground floor bedroom, wonderful feature stone walls and beams all over the cottage. Adjoining the owners’ home, but offering privacy, this is an ideal place for couples, families and friends to get together. There is a woodburner in the living room, which is ideal for all year round holidays, and underfloor heating, perfect for those cosy nights in. There is a garden which is shared with the owners and their chickens.
There are many local attractions, including Glastonbury Tor and Glastonbury Abbey, which are iconic Somerset landmarks. Climb up to St Michael’s Tower, sit down and take in the beauty of the place. Located in the heart of Somerset, Shapwick Heath National Nature Reserve has a variety of habitats, including wildflower meadows, ditches, dens, damp fern woods and open water surrounded by reed beds. From November to February, Shapwick Heath is one of the best places in England to see huge flocks of starlings come to roost in winter. Around 64 different species of birds nest here, including Cetti’s warbler and great-crested grebes, whilst dragonflies and over 27 species of butterfies abound in the summer.
The property is also close to Glastonbury, Street and The Clarks Village, where retail therapy is a must and pampering if required. The charming city of Wells is just 30 minutes away. The Mendip Hills, Wells Cathedral, Wookey Hole, Cheddar Gorge, Coleridge’s Cottage, Fyne Court, Stourhead, the Quantock Hills, Dunster Castle, Hestercombe Gardens, Lytes Cary Manor and many NT properties are close by.
Whether you like bird watching, cycling, walking, surfing, golf, horse riding or swimming in the heated outdoor lido pool at Street, there is something for everyone in this wonderful part of Somerset. There are beaches to the north and south, and local produce, organic food and farms are also close by. Shop 20 yards, pub and restaurant 1/2 mile.
