Exmouth, Devon’s oldest seaside resort, has a busy little harbour to the west and high red cliffs with coastal paths to the east. Situated in a quiet residential area, this lovely detached holiday house offers an excellent base for a family holiday or for friends to get together. There is an enclosed patio area, ideal for al fresco dining. Exmouth’s main attraction is the two miles of beach, and there is also the Exe Estuary, home to numerous species of wildlife and a favourite for birdwatchers. There are walks close by, including the Jurassic Coast with stunning views. From the coastal path, you can experience sheer cliff faces and strangely eroded rock formations. Exmouth is the place for water sports, and nearby Crealy Park is a great day out for the family. Exeter is a short train ride along the estuary with cathedral and shops, or you can take a trip to Dartmoor, where you will find heather-clad tors and Dartmoor ponies. Take a ferry to Starcross and stroll to Powderham Castle. Stop off at Beer, with caves and a beach; visit Branscombe and Sidmouth with shopping and promenade; or visit Seaton, where you can take a tram ride through the countryside. Close by, there are afternoon river cruises on the Exe Estuary with views of Starcross, Powderham Castle, Topsham, Lympstone and the wildlife, or take a visit to ‘World of Country Life’. Sidmouth’s 18-hole golf course is close by. There are also many National Trust properties close by. Try to get a visit to A la Ronde. Beach just over 1 mile. This charming Inn, specialising in sea-food but offering a menu to suit all tastes is reputedly over 450 years old and was originally opened as a Seamen's Mission. At that time Brunel had not built the Atmospheric Railway, and the water used to go nearly up to Dawlish. We are told the Anchor was a haven for seamen and smugglers and is still haunted by a friendly ghost and his dog. This is one of our favourite local country pubs and restaurants! They have a wonderful menu of locally sourced food. A good range of both specials and what you would call normal pub food. You must try their Fillet Steak, it?s one of the best I have ever had! The staff are very friendly and helpful and there is a lovely relaxed atmosphere. This pub is both children and dog friendly. They also have a restaurant where you can order from a separate, more refined menu.

The beach at Branscombe Mouth has plenty of parking, a thatched, licensed restaurant and an abundance of rock pools just waiting to be explored. Those keen on fishing can take a trip out on a boat to catch mackerel. We think it is truly beautiful here and worth a visit!

Honiton is a pleasant, busy market town with a growing population of over 12,000. Historically, the town was one of the centres of the medieval West Country cloth trade and later became famous for its lace. There is an excellent museum containing the main collection of Honiton Lace, while the High Street hosts specialist shops for both lace and pottery. Indeed just about everything is on the High Street, wide enough to allow parking on both sides and lined with Georgian buildings, many of which are former coaching inns which became favourite resting places for travellers. Small courtyards and alleyways immediately off the High Street provide compelling market places in their own right with a variety of small shops. Renowned for its antiques, Honiton's world-wide reputation is justified by the large number of antique shops and centres situated on or near the High Street itself, together with one auction house. With more than 30 dealers to choose from, the sheer number and range of antiques available attracts collectors, dealers and visitors from all over the world to visit what has become the major antiques centre in the south-west of England.
It's easy to see why Becky Falls was voted Top Beauty Spot in Devon and why visitors have been returning since the park opened over a hundred years ago. Animals to meet and feed include Dartmoor ponies, miniature Shetland ponies, chipmunks, rescued birds of prey, owls and pygmy goats. This 18 hole outdoor adventure course is well designed and themed around a crew of pilfering pirates and is located on the picturesque Paignton seafront. They are open all year round, weather permitting and as it is floodlit you can play till late. There are lots of obstacles to get around as well as a collection of suitable sound effects. Pirates Adventure Golf is reasonably priced and is a fun and entertaining way to pass a couple of hours, whilst trying for a hole in one which, would make the day.

Paignton Geopark is located on the beautiful seafront and is a wonderful free and child friendly attraction. It has been well constructed and thought out and represents the areas geological history and has separate areas for play. There is a toddler zone complete with seesaw, climbing hut, trampoline, spinner bowls swing and trilobite. The junior zone has a enormous climbing net, sand and water play area that contains digging equipment and tables to play on. The teen zone is the biggest section and children can enjoy zip wires, towers, play huts, swings, climbing logs, stilts and climbing trees. The area is clean and well maintained and there are lots of places for adults to sit and supervise. It is a fun and exciting space where children can have hours of fun, blowing off steam and letting their imaginations run riot. There are lots of places close by to get food and drink or you can take along a picnic and make a day of it. Paignton Geopark is a superb fun and entertaining free attraction especially for children and there aren't many of those.
A bustling, historical market town in the heart of Mid Devon, Tiverton has a wide range of attractions to interest the visitor. The castle was occupied by the Earls of Devon up to the 16th Century and the restored canal with a horse drawn passenger service follows a glorious route through unspoilt countryside. The town itself has a lively market with a farmers market the third Wednesday of every month as well as a number of shops, tearooms and restaurants. A church trail exploring many of the outstanding churches in the area, as well as a local town trail, are available, enabling you to discover the hidden historic and architectural gems of the town and offering a fascinating insight into their history. The recently restored historic pannier market holds regular events including antiques and farmers markets. Canal walks and horse-drawn boat cruises take place on the Grand Western Canal with an amazing 24 bridges along its 11-mile stretch! Take a trip to Tiverton Castle, built in 1106 by Richard de Redvars on the orders of Henry I.

Quantock Trekking is located in the charming and historic village of West Bagborough. It is in an idyllic setting with 50 acres of glorious moorlands on the doorstep and has been classified as an Area of Outstanding Beauty. The staff are so friendly, attentive and professional and will put the most nervous rider at ease so that they can enjoy the whole experience. The horses are all rescue horses and are fantastic there is one to suit everyone and they are very gentle, patient and well behaved. All equipment is provided so it is not necessary to take anything along. Whatever trekking route you take you will see the most stunning scenery in the Quannock Hills and surrounding beautiful countryside. You will get the opportunity to canter and gallop during your ride. There is a choice of either two or three hour rides available as well riding holidays, but, you will need to have ridden before and have basic riding skills for these. Quantock Trekking offers a fantastic way to see the countryside and is highly recommended to everyone you will thoroughly enjoy the experience.
Exmouth Beach is a wide golden sandy beach offering lots of space for fun, it is a lovely traditional English beach. Ideally located in the town, the beach is clean and well maintained and has a lifeguard during the summer months. There is plenty of activities on offer here with swimming, fishing, jet skiing, surfing, windsurfing, kite surfing, sailing and boat trips and then you can build sand castles, splash in the water, clamber on the rocks, search the rock pools, or just run along the beach, or even just relax in a deck chair. There is a wide promenade behind the beach that has a good range of shops, restaurants and pubs. You will find parking along the road or there are carparks located nearby. Exmouth Beach offers a traditional beach experience and is perfect for families who can benefit from the two miles of golden sand as well as it being safe and clean, with many amenities nearby and it never feels too busy.
Dolphins are often spotted from this long sand and shingle beach, which stretches from the mouth of the River Teign towards Dawlish and is dominated by the grand Victorian pier. Look out over the famous Jurassic Coastline and see how the sand bars here can change shape overnight. (Dogs banned from the beach from May to September)

This independent region offers a lovely theatre, promenade, hotels, bed and breakfasts, restaurants, shops and the renowned Babbacombe Model Village. Located along the northern shore of Tor Bay, the Torquay Harbour is an important landmark for local business and industry. This commercial port provides access to a vibrant selection of bars, restaurants and shops. The inner harbour can be found behind a cill and bridge and includes 170 trot moorings that can accommodate boats up to 9 metres in length.

Breakwater is a small shingle beach adjacent to picturesque Brixham Harbour. It's popular with divers because of its blue waters and there are plenty of facilities including a shop and restaurant with views over the bay.

Ideal for families with children, this is route is flat, easy and mainly off road. There are open views of superb landscape along the way, varying between the sheltered woodland and sweeping vistas of the Blackdown Hills.

There are wonderful Dartmoor views on this route which takes you mainly along Devon's quiet country lanes, with a short stretch of the Tarka Trail; passing many places of historic interest on the way.
Encompassing industrial history and natural beauty, this route is worth it for the views alone. Just south of Okehampton, the viaduct was built in 1874 and spans 165 metres over the remains of mineral mines. The view of Meldon Dam is almost 50 metres high.
This is an easy route of 11 miles with the least traffic in Devon. You'll cycle through rural Devon, enjoying spectacular views of Dartmoor and its wildlife on the way.
Why not walk a short section of the Dartmoor Way? This circular 78 mile walking trail meanders across rolling moorland, through quaint Devon thatched villages along secluded wooded valleys, over clapper bridges and around Dartmoor's unique tors.
Starting at the pretty harbour village of West Bay, this route follows the path of the meandering River Brit. The 11 mile walk north from West Bay to the Beaminster Downs takes in both stunning coastline and unspoilt countryside, and the walk's conclusion
Enjoy Somerset countryside at your own pace on a 33 mile circular route via Milverton, Whiteball and Pitminster. It starts and ends in Taunton and stays mainly on quiet roads; there are some difficult hilly stretches along the return half.
Salcombe Hill Walk is an enjoyable 4.7 mile walk that takes in some stunning and spectacular landscapes. This circular walk is classified as moderate and will accommodate most people although there are some steep inclines, the routes are well sign posted. The walk commences up in Salcombe Hill and you descend down through woodland until you come to the path that takes you along the River Sid and along to the seafront. You then continue your walk along to the sea and into the town. The Alma Bridge dates to the 19th century takes you to the cliff-path that meanders up the hill, to the steep red cliffs that overlook this beautiful landscape. From here you can enjoy panoramic views out over Lyme Bay and the renowned cliffs of the Jurassic Coast and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the area. The walk are open to dogs and are something that the whole family can enjoy. If you take this walk early in the morning you can enjoy the stunning sunrise's. There are some attractions to see along the way including the old church and plenty of opportunities for blackberry picking if you visit at that time of the year, and in the spring the bluebells are beautiful. Put on comfortable shoes and take yourself along to the Salcombe Hill Walk you will not be disappointed as the walk is beautiful regardless of the time of year.
Located in the spectacular Teign valley on the edge of Dartmoor National Park is Finlake Riding centre. This riding centre caters for everyone - you can enjoy exhilarating rides which can include cream teas and evening pub rides, or, if you have small children, they can ride on the tiny miniature Shetland pony called 'Diddy mouse' or the slightly bigger 'Tinkerbell'.
Founded in 1884, Axe Cliff Golf Club is not only one of the oldest courses in Devon but was designed by legendary golf course architect and five times open winner in the early 1900s, Scotland's James Braid.
Cayman Golf is located on the edge of Brixham within the stunning Devon countryside. It is the only short course cayman golf in the UK and offers pitch n' putt but with a difference, the balls design mean they are lighter than a traditional ball and also travel a shorter distance. This 18 hole par 71 golf course has been well designed and laid out and offers a great short game of golf for all level of player. The course is well maintained and is very pretty with a a nice pond as a water obstacle in the centre. As the course is smaller than normal a round will generally only take about two hours much less than a traditional golf course. So if you do not have time for a full round of golf this is the perfect solution. It is a great fun activity that all the family can get involved with. They are open all year round, staff are very friendly and helpful and the prices are excellent value making it an affordable family activity. A definite if you are in the area.

Located at the southern end of the Exe estuary, this reserve encompasses a large area of tidal sand and mud and is one of the biggest of its type in Devon. In autumn thousands of birds fly from the freezing Arctic to winter here. Dark-bellied brent geese, widgeon and pintail ducks can all be seen.
The nature reserve is located at the mouth of the River Exe on a long sand spit that is home to many species of wildlife and holds geomorphologic interest. Habitats include dunes, grassland, ponds, salt marsh and mudflats.
The reed beds here are home to a large number of wetland birds. The reserve has emerged as an important stop-off point for the huge amounts of migrating birds which use it as a feeding area. Keep an eye out for Cetti's Warblers.
Stroll around the lovely heathland and keep an out for Dartford warblers and stonechats over the summer months. Keep your eyes peeled for the many dragonflies, butterflies and damselflies that have made the area their home.
Chapel Wood is a broadleaved woodland, sited on a steep hillside, crowned by an Iron-Age hill fort, with a stream running down either side. As well as an impressive variety of birds, you might spot red deer, badgers and brown hares.
Spend an evening watching wild caught Bavarian beavers in their two acre enclosure encircling ponds, woodland and a section of stream within Escot Park. The beavers have built the first dam in the South West in 800 years.
Yarner Wood, Trendlebere Down and the Bovey Valley Woodlands all make up the East Dartmoor Woods and Heaths area. This special area is home to a number of birds and lower plant communities and are a continuing site for wildlife diversification.
Berry Head to Sharkham Point is special area of flora and fauna that is a haven for several nationally rare and threatened species including endangered greater horseshoe bats, who have found a home in the caves at Berry Head.
Berry Head National Nature Reserve is located along the coastline of Brixham. It is a beautiful spot with lots to see and do, you can walk along the coastal path up to the headland and admire the views out across Torbay, visit the two Napoleonic forts or lighthouse, watch out for basking sharks, dolphins and porpoises playing in the waters, or spot the nesting sea birds in the cliffs. Along the walk there is an abundance of wild flowers and wildlife. The area is well sign posted for walkers showing the routes around here, and there are lots of information boards relating to the history and geology of the area. Care should be taken if with young children or dogs as it is an open area and there is a sheer drop down the cliffs. Frequent events take place here including a family fun dog show, celebration events, wildlife talks, outdoor cookery demonstrations and much more, so do check the website for upcoming events, they make for a great day out. There is a cafe that serves great food, it is cosy and the prices are reasonable. Berry Head National Nature Reserve is a beautiful scenic area that has a wealth of attractions to see and do makes for a lovely day out for everyone especially on a warm bright day.
The perfect wildlife garden, set in a sheltered combe on the Devon coast near Dartmouth. The garden is great for spotting butterflies, in August and September you are likely to see the Clouded Yellow, Red Admiral and Painted Lady.
Slapton Ley is a unique, reed fringed wetland and home to otters, mink, badgers, birds and bats. It is split into two leys, or lakes, the Lower Ley being the largest natural freshwater lake in South West England.
West Sedgemoor is a section of England's biggest remaining wet meadow system. It is situated between the Somerset Levels and Moors, and has been classified as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. To maintain the hay meadows and pastures necessary for the wildlife, the water levels are regulated and in addition the grazing cattle establish the perfect habitats for ground nesting birds. In the meadows you will see many species of bird including, ducks, lapwings, shovelers, teals, wigeons, pintails, snipe, curlew and redshanks who flock here in their thousands to set up home, so there is plenty of opportunity to bird watch. The hedgerows are maintained by using conventional methods to improve the grounds for the birds, small mammals, butterflies, water voles and otters who live and breed here. The reserve has controlled access to protect ground nesting birds and other inhabitants so be aware of this. To achieve the most out of your visit to West Sedgemoor, it is probably best to take one of the guided walks, you will get special access to the winter viewing station. There is a charge for these walks but it is not expensive and is value for money considering all you will obtain from the guides they are so knowledgeable and friendly. West Sedgemoor is a unique spot, you can't help but marvel at the wide open spaces, it is an absolutely gorgeous setting. If you are a bird watcher or enjoy wildlife you will love West Sedgemoor and even if you don't you can't help but be mesmerised by the beauty of the area.
This is a well known migration watch point for land and sea birds, and is possibly the best location in the UK for seeing Cirl Bunting in their breeding grounds. Sooty Shearwater's have also been spotted from this area.
You should be able to spot Wood Whites, Brown Hairstreaks, Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary and Silver-washed Fritillary at Mount Fancy Farm Butterfly Reserve. It's a site of varied habitats set on the Blackdown Ridge with magnificent views over south Somerset.

Exe Trial is a predominantly flat twenty six mile cycle trail that encircles the complete Exe Estuary. The trail is mostly off-road and allows offers users a safe route to explore this lovely area, as you travel along the route you will encounter lots of wildlife, flowers and fauna, as well as pass through some lovely riverside towns and villages, each with their own appeal and charm. There is a map available that you can download, it has lots of information on the trail. As the trail is mostly flat, there are a few minor hills, and smooth it can be used by everyone and offers a nice steady ride or walk. There are lots of stops along the way for refreshments with a choice of village pubs, cafes or restaurants. If you haven't brought along a bike don't worry you can hire a bike in Exmouth or Topsham. The trail has stunning views and is so peaceful too, highly recommended as you get to see lots of wildlife in the nature reserves and lovely coastal views, it is suitable for everyone as it is away from the road and therefore safe for children to walk or cycle along.

The boat is clean and well maintained, carries all relevant safety equipment and has many conveniences including a toilet, hot water and a microwave, drinks and snacks are also available on board. They are situated within more than one hundred acres of lovely countryside and beside a magnificent deer park. They offer a range of experiences that vary in duration from one hour to a five day intensive course, and from personal experiences to group events. The experiences are aimed at all ages that make for a informative and fun day out, you also have the opportunity to hold these magnificent birds. Dawlish is a fascinating Regency resort town nestled attractively between steep surrounding hills with the railway sweeping along the entire seafront. Peak Hill Llamas is a unique and novel way to take in the beautiful walks along East Devon's stunning Jurassic Coast. When you arrive you are firstly introduced to these majestic and beautiful animals, you get to know them by grooming them and leading them outside for some training, on how to handle and lead the llamas, then you set out for the walk and it is during this time that you discover that these animals are quite headstrong, they each have their own character, they only proceed at their own pace, frequently stop but, nevertheless it is thoroughly enjoyable as you connect with the llamas, see magnificent countryside and get lots of fresh country air. What enhances the experience is the owner Maggie she is devoted and passionate about the llamas and is so jolly and friendly she puts you totally at ease. The Church of St. Mary is an accurate scale replica of Exeter Cathedral. The old wooden stocks were used as an alternative to a night in jail for drunkenness. Ottery St. Mary sits on the banks of the Otter River. Escot House and its Capability Brown gardens are nearby. Mention Ottery St. Mary to locals and they will talk about November 5th and the world famous tar barrels event which originated in the 17th century. The Donkey Sanctuary has been looking after and providing these animals with a home since 1969, it is worldwide organisation that strives to improve the working environment for donkeys and mules throughout the world. Here in Sidmouth you can share in the story during a visit to Slade Farm, learn all about the lady who started this great cause and the things she has achieved through a video presentation. There are currently about 500 donkeys living here in wonderful conditions by people that truly care for them and you will get to meet some of these gentle and affectionate creatures. A number of different species can be found here including, the gentle giant Poitou donkeys, main yard donkeys and miniature donkeys. There are five beautiful walking trails situated around the grounds, they vary in length and ability but, there is a walk to cater to all abilities. Strand Art Gallery is located in the centre of the gorgeous Brixham harbour side, it is a long established gallery being one of the oldest and biggest galleries in Devon and the West of England. It is a bright and airy gallery and each piece is well presented, there is also a pleasant smell of paint as you wander around. You will find on display here a wealth of fine art paintings by talented and professional artists who have a long standing with the gallery. The emphasis here is on marine and landscape art particularly of the glorious Devon countryside and coastal ways. There is always a large collection of lovely paintings for sale and to view, you might even find a special souvenir to take home. Most paintings can be placed in any frame. The artists paint here on the premises and can be seen at work, they will also happily chat to you about their work and painting styles and techniques. You might also see them working around the harbour, it is lovely to watch them at work and creating something special on the canvas. River Dart Country Park is located in the stunning Dartmoor National Park, and set amongst ninety acres of parkland and woods, with the River Dart flowing through, there are also lakes here too. It is a beautiful spot with many amenities to complement the camping facilities. Children will love the wide open spaces to run around in, or woods to play hide and seek in or build dens and there are plenty of scenic walks. On site you will find Adventure Playgrounds that comprise of zip[p wires, climbing frames, low course wire, Zorbs and much more. There is also a Pirate Ship on the lake complete with slides. Located here are CRS Adventures, they offer a range of outdoor activities including, rock climbing, abseiling, canoeing and caving, perfect for those seeking thrills and excitement. All activities are accompanied by a fully qualified instructor and run during the months of July and August. The Old Sawmill Cafe is warm and welcoming with a excellent range of snacks and meals that are tasty, freshly cooked and well priced. The park is safe, clean and well maintained and the amenities are very good here. Staff are so friendly and helpful and really enhance your visit. River Dart Country Park offers excellent facilities wether coming as a day visitor or camping here, the facilities are excellent and offers real value for money and with so much to offer there is something for everyone, you will leave wanting to return.
A rare example of surviving Georgian architecture, industry and enterprise, set in the tranquil village of Uffculme, Coldharbour Mill was built in 1799 to spin woollen and later worstead yarns.
South Devon Railway is located amongst the beautiful Devon countryside and is a premier tourist attraction. The rails extend to seven miles running on the former Great Western Railway branch line, dating back to 1872. The rails run through some of the most gorgeous unspoilt countryside as it travels through the valley of the River Dart between Buckfastleigh and Totnes, you will see lots of wildlife and plenty of flora and fauna. They operate steam trains with heritage rolling stock. It is a fantastic all weather attraction that all the family can enjoy. The railway is operated by volunteers who are fantastic, so friendly and obliging and happy to answer any questions you have on the railways. At Buckfastleigh there is a museum that is home to a collection of steam and diesel locomotives and rolling stock, model railway, there is also a play area, gardens, picnic areas, pleasant and welcoming tea room, a small gift shop and some fabulous riverside walks. Totnes station is a representation of times gone by, the station has been constructed from buildings and artefacts rescued from GWR stations from all over the west of the country. They offer a range of events including, rail cruises that run on Wednesdays in August and start with a barbecue, for a special occasion you can board one of their dining trains and enjoy a delicious meal as you travel through the stunning countryside, or maybe achieve a lifetime dream to drive a train, a unique and exhilarating experience, full details are available on the website. South Devon Railway is a nostalgic day out for many and young children will love riding on a steam train, it is a brilliant family friendly activity that everyone can enjoy with a number of stops along the rails to disembark at and explore, and is excellent value for money too, highly recommended.
Buckfast Butterfly Farm and Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary are located in the beautiful Devon countryside close to the southern border of Dartmoor National Park. It is a fantastic attraction aimed at all the family, run by a dedicated, committed and friendly team of staff. It is an educational and fun environment where you can see a range of animals in their natural environments. All monies raised are ploughed back in into the facility for rehabilitating, rescuing and looking after the otters. The butterflies are housed in a specially built habitat, that represents a rainforest environment that you can wander around and see the butterflies in their natural environment as they process through their various stages in their life cycle and fly amongst you. You will find three species of otter here, their keeper will be happy to explain about the different species housed here and answer any questions. It is wonderful to see these creatures playing and swimming in the water, or being fed. Other animals that are found here are terrapins, ants, insects, frogs, fish and reptiles. The talks that are given are really interesting and informative and they have lots of stories about the residents here. The park houses a cafe as well as picnic areas, the cafe has a nice selection of snacks and refreshments that are well priced. They are open daily throughout the year, for admission charges check the website as there are various ticket options available. Buckfast Butterfly Farm and Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary is a wonderful conservation centre that does a fabulous job, you get to see and get close to lots of wonderful animals, in their natural environment, a great hands on and educational attraction that all the family will love.
Lively presentation for families and children is a feature of the Totnes Museum. Like a time machine, it takes visitors back to other worlds: from prehistoric times, through the Elizabethan period (from which the building dates) and on to the Victorian age.

Tiverton Canal Company offers a ride on one of the few remaining horse drawn barges in the United Kingdom. They can be found on the banks of the lovely Grand Western Canal, a beautiful stretch of waterway that has lots to offer to its visitors including, wildlife, flora and fauna, boats, horses and pretty scenery. The canal is eleven miles long and meanders through the pretty unspoilt waterways that are so tranquil and peaceful often with just the sounds of the wildlife to be heard. The grounds by the barge are beautifully maintained and the boat is pristine and a great example of a bygone era. The captain of the boat dresses in traditional attire and gives a wonderful running commentary, really informative and interesting, and pitched at just the right level to engage everyone. There is also a quick stop at an aqueduct during the journey. The shire horse that pull the barge has a lovely friendly temperament and is particularly partial to mints. There are refreshments available on board or there is a floating cafe, Ducks Ditty Cafe Bar, near to the departure area that has a nice menu of snacks and drinks. The journey last about two and a half hours and is so enjoyable, relaxing and so much to see along the canal. A first class attraction that gives a glimpse into a bygone era, a real nostalgic experience. The canal has much to offer too with lovely walks, a gift shop that has some unusual gift items and you can also hire a boat or canoe yourself to take along the canal.
Devon Badger watch offers a unique and unusual attraction for those interested in badgers or wildlife. Kevin and Anne will take you up close to these shy and mysterious creatures as they venture out of their setts into night time, observation is done from the purpose built hide. During an evening you get a real insight into these animals and learn all about their lives and habits and how they are affected by modern farming practises, see their large claws and teeth, watch them eat and try to determine which is male or female. You will see much more wildlife during your nights excursion including many birds, animals and mammals. The meeting point is in their barn located just five miles outside of Tiverton where there are lots of information boards relating to the animas you will see. The commentary Kevin and Anne give is totally fascinating and their passion for these animals shines through. It is a totally unique and memorable experience that all ages will enjoy and excellent value too, highly recommended.
Chard Museum, High Street (A30) is in Godworthy House and the former New Inn. Exhibits illustrate the history of Chard and John Stringfellow, a pioneer of steam powered flight in the 19th century. At the rear we have Dening agricultural machinery and a display of James Gillingham's innovative work with moulded leather artificial limbs. The pub skittle alley contains a reconstructed forge and workshops.
Go Coasteering are a specialist company for coasteering with a huge selection of jump points around Devon, Cornwall and Dorset. They have selected the best points with the best tide times. This relatively new sport is for those who are seeking thrills and adventure, it is a strenuous activity involving climbing, scrambling, jumping, diving and swimming. It is excellent value for money and definitely something you should try if you are in the area, a thrilling and memorable experience that everyone will love.
St Tudy is a tranquil village with pretty cottages and craft shops and a beautiful 15th century church made from Delabole slate. With Bodmin Moor on the doorstep, it makes an ideal location for exploring both coastal and inland regions.
The Somerset Towpath is a well managed towpath with intriguing lock structures, it is pretty much severed from the remainder of the system but provides conditions perfect for walks and relaxed boating. The towpath runs from Bridgwater to Taunton and is about 14 miles in length. Most of the canal is rural so it is a perfect spot for nature enthusiasts, walkers and cyclists offering lots of lovely scenery, pretty houses, interesting WW2 concrete bunkers as well as plenty of wildlife. A particular attraction along the towpath is the Somerset Space Walk, this is a scale model of the sun can be located at Maunsel Lock and for six miles along the towpath you will find planets placed along in both directions, this is to illustrate the vast scale of the solar system. Manusel Lock is also home to a canal centre where you can take a boat trip, get some refreshments in the Tearooms, or information on the canal and local area. You will find the staff to be friendly, informative and helpful. If you want to get away from it all and love peace and tranquillity then head to the Somerset Towpath where you will find it in abundance, a lovely spot.

It is like an Aladdins cave of delights for those who are interested in arts and crafts, they have a huge range of items with everything you could need to get creative. You will find all sorts of items here from decopatch to sewing, embroidery, woodwork, beadwork, fimo modelling and much more. The staff are friendly and helpful and will be able to help with any queries or problems you might have. In addition they operate workshops that are superb, well conducted and excellent value. If you are looking for a card or gift for that special someone or special occasion, you will find it here. They also serve drinks and snacks. Imagine Design Create is a fantastic creative store that will bring out anyones creativite side, it is a fabulous shop with lots to see and choose from and something to suit all budgets.
Based in the heart of West Dorset in the market town of Bridport, this historic venue has a 200 seat theatre and three exhibition spaces. It also runs life drawing classes, exhibitions, films, farmers' markets and live music.
Eastcott Vineyard is a small family operated establishment, located in the beautiful countryside of West Devon. It started as a dream and has now evolved into a successful business. The vinery covers six acres and produces a range of internationally known still and sparkling English wines, with both whites and roses. They run two guided tours, the Winery Tour and Talk or the Grand Vine to Wine Tour, they both are available April through to September, dates and times are on the website. In addition they also offer tutored wine tasting for groups over six people to a maximum of fifteen. When producing their fabulous wines they use traditional methods and a detailed description of the various processes involved are covered on the tours, you learn about the whole process from vine to bottle. The tours are really interesting and very informative and lasts about two hours. At the end you get to sample a selection of their quality wines and have the opportunity to buy some to take home for your enjoyment. Eastcott Vineyard enjoys a beautiful position in the Devon countryside and is fabulous when the sun shines, the family are lovely really friendly and very enthusiastic about what they do, you are made to fell very welcome and there is no hard sell from them, definitely worth a visit.

Set amid an ancient deer park, this magnificent medieval castle has been a family home to the Earls of Devon for over 600 years. Tour guides will entertain you with fascinating stories of the castle as you explore its impressive rooms.
Ugbrooke House and Gardens are located in the gorgeous Devon valley that was landscaped by Capability Brown, along with the interior of the house. The stately house has a history extending back 900 years and has gone through many alterations and renovations over the years to create the fabulous, majestic and charming building that stands today, and it has a rich and interesting history. A number of original features remain and housed here are a number of fine paintings, furniture, porcelain, tapestries and beautiful needlework as well as a rare military uniform collection. You get to see a number of the main rooms, they are stunning and beautifully restored with lots of items of interest, the chapel is fantastic. It still continues to be a family home to Lord and Lady Clifford, having been the family's home since 1604. The grounds are lovely to walk around with lakeside walks and lots of places to explore. The house is open from July through to September, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 12.30pm to 5.30pm. You can take a guided tour of the house where you will get a history of the house and find out lots of information on the residents including personal stories, the guides are well informed and really friendly and helpful, tours last about an hour and a half. You can also arrange private tours and you need to contact the site directly, full details are on the website. The Orangery Tearooms that are warm and welcoming, they serve a lovely selection of light lunches, locally made snacks and cream teas, that are delicious and well priced. Throughout the year they organise a number of events and again details can be obtained from the website. Ugbrooke House and Gardens are a fabulous example of a charming and historic stately home that has been sympathetically restored and renovated to its full glory and it offers a real insight into a past era of glamour and grandeur, a definite if you are in the area.

Brixham Battery Heritage Centre is operated by a group of volunteers who established the centre to raise awareness and restore and maintain the Brixham Coastal Defence Battery. This battery was constructed in 1940 and played an integral part during World War II. The centre along with accompanying museum serves to provide the public with a wealth of information relating to the various components here, that include the ATS building, War Shelter, Ammunition Tunnels, Generator Rooms, Gun Emplacements, Battery Observation Post, Pill Box and the remaining structures located here on the site. During a visit you will learn all about the history and operation of the site during this pivotal era in British history, through hands on exhibits, and the many items of military memorabilia on show here. It is an impressive and intriguing site with so much to see and do and you get a real insight into this dark period in the country's history. The centre is open Sunday, Monday and Friday throughout the year, and during the month of August on a Wednesday also. There is no charge for entry. They hold a number of events throughout the year so definitely worth checking the website for details of these. The volunteers are fabulous so friendly and helpful, more than happy to show you around or answer any questions you might have. Brixham Battery Heritage Centre is a great example of how the past is being preserved and retained for future generations to appreciate the sacrifices made by those in WWII, makes for a great day out for all ages, definitely worth a visit if in the area.
Brixham Heritage Museum is located in the old police station in the centre of Brixham town. This traditional museum is committed to the history and heritage of the town and delves into its past through to present. The museum is open throughout the year from Tuesday through to Saturday, there is a small admission charge for adults and children are free. Exhibitions are laid out over two floors and there are many things of interest to see including a replica of a fisherman's cottage dating to the 1900's a, an original police cell complete with characters, lots of items and memorabilia relating to both World War I and II, information on the towns rich maritime history, a toy display and much more. There are lots of hands on activities for children to engage in with craft tables, a sand table to uncover fossils, dress up areas and lots more. The museum is well laid out and all items are clearly displayed with lots of relevant information. In addition they frequently have changing exhibits so always something new to see here. The volunteers are lovely, really friendly and obliging, happy to answer any questions you might have. Brixham Heritage Museum is a gem of an attraction so much to see and lots of information too, there is something to entertain everyone here, definitely worth a visit when in the town.
The last castle to be built in England, and one of the most remarkable works of Sir Edwin Lutyens. Constructed between 1910 and 1930, it commands spectacular views over Dartmoor from its 900ft high perch above the River Teign, and its interior combines the grandeur of a medieval castle with the comfort of the 20th century.
St Peter's Church is a grade I listed parish church that dates back to the 15th century and is located in the heart of the pretty town of Tiverton. It continues to this day to serve the local communities as a place of worship and reflection. It is a lovely church with many fine architectural features both inside and out, the decorative stonework is beautiful and so are the stained glass windows, and the embroidered kneeler shelves are wonderful. The current organ dates to 1696 and still emits a wonderful sound. The church is open where possible daily from 9.30 to 3.30 and you are welcome to come inside and take a look around or just avail of the peacefulness here, there are usually volunteers around who are happy to answer your questions. The church has a nice meditative atmosphere. Outside are some interesting gravestones many dating back hundreds of centuries. There are regular services that still retain the old style of worship and are open to all, you will find the parishioners to be welcoming and friendly. They have a number of events during the year that are again open to everyone and range from coffee mornings to a Flower Festival and Remembrance Parade, St Peter's Church continues to be an integral part of community life here in Tiverton. A lovely old church with many fine features and a really friendly congregation, worth a visit if you are in the town.

Run by the Finch family from 1814 to 1960, the Foundry harnessed the power of the River Taw in Sticklepath village to produce agricultural implements and mining tools for the tin and copper mines and china clay industry of Devon and Cornwall.
Museum of Dartmoor Life is located in a charming historic former Warehouse and Mill that date back to the 19th century. The museum narrates the story of the people of Dartmoor from its beginnings in prehistoric times to the 20th century mining and hill farming, and delves into the traditional, cultural and heritage of the area. There are permanent exhibits as well as temporary exhibits so there is always something new to see here. It is set over three floors, and has a great collection of quality artefacts and memorabilia as well as interactive displays, areas of interest here are the reconstructed Bronze Age hut, Victorian kitchen, blacksmith shop and a number of interesting farming exhibits.There are information boards to tell you about the different exhibits. You can learn about traditional Dartmoor industries like glass making, quarrying and rural crafts during your visit. There is plenty to keep young visitors occupied with discovery zones and they have the opportunity to dress up in historical costumes, collect stamps and find piskies. The museum also runs a number of events throughout the year, details are on the website so watch out for these. The museum is open Monday to Saturday and there is a small charge for entry. Volunteers run the museum and you will find them to be really friendly and helpful. Next door is a quaint tea shop selling a nice range refreshments as well as a gift shop that sells a nice selection of gorgeous hand crafted items and other gifts. Museum of Dartmoor Life is a lovely provincial museum giving a real insight into the past life of the residents of the town, it takes you back to another time and allows you to get a feel of what it was like then. A must if you are in the area as there is something to keep all ages entertained.
The Museum of Somerset is a lovely modern museum that is located in the 12th century Taunton Castle. The museum is committed to the history of Somerset and gives an insight into the history of the area over 6000 years from prehistoric times through to present day. In addition it also has an excellent WW1 exhibit that is worth visiting. It has a a fantastic and diverse collection of artefacts, information on local characters and their stories as well as interactive displays, the displays are impressive and well laid out with nice quotations. The museum is easy to navigate around and you will find the staff to be friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The museum succeeds in narrating the story of the region in an interesting and engaging way that will appeal to all ages and interests. There is no entry to the museum however, they run various events throughout the year and these along with the quizzes tend to have a nominal charge. There is a nice cafe that has a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, it is a good place to stop to enjoy a beverage and a light snack. It will take several hours to get around as there is so much to see. If you are in the area and even if you aren't particularly interested in history you should not miss the opportunity to visit The Museum of Somerset it is an excellent day out that everyone will enjoy.
Bishops Lydeard Mill is a delightful friendly attraction, that allows you to get a glimpse into times gone by. It is a delightful example of a working mill in addition to an intimate museum, lovely gardens and tea rooms. There are lots of interesting exhibits that are well marked with information boards, as well as a audio presentation, and an insight into local past trades and crafts, the museum is set over three floors, the stairs are steep so care and a level of mobility is needed to get around. The mill has been lovingly and carefully restored to its full working capacity, and it is nice to see a piece of history back at work. There is a small charge for entry but, all proceeds are donated to five different charities. The volunteers are so friendly and helpful and more than happy to answer any questions that you might have. The tea room is lovely and so reasonably priced, they serve delicious gluten free cakes, ice creams and a selection of beverages, sitting outside is just lovely as you watch the ducks in the mill pond and relish the peace and tranquillity that surrounds you. Bishops Lydeard Mill is suitable for everyone, even younger children, who can enjoy the small entertainment area and have the opportunity to grind their own car. Bishops Lydeard Mill is a lovely, friendly and intimate museum that transports you back in time, a great day out if you are in the area.
