Woodstock Cottage is a single storey, detached cottage just one mile from the quiet village of Ballindine, County Mayo in the west of Ireland. With one double bedroom and a bathroom, it is a perfect cottage for a couple. The rest of the cottage comprises a fitted kitchen with a dining area and a sitting room with an open fire. Hennigan's Heritage Centre aims to educate and entertain visitors with the history and heritage of the farmers living in the Mayo County area. Exhibits include a thatched cottage built in 1870 and displays teaching about the local Parish community and how it operated with a cobbler's shop, a collection of local artefacts and a display of agricultural implements.
Aughnanure Castle in County Galway was constructed in the 1500s. The scene is gorgeous, with lush greener surrounding this stoic structure. The island is rocky, which adds enchanting atmosphere to the view. The castle itself is very well preserved and includes double bawn and bastions as well as a dry harbour.
St Attracta's Well near Monasteraden, is an old well dedicated to St Attracta, who started a nunnery in Killaraght. The well displays a plaque depicting the crucifixion which dates back to the 1660's. The well also displays fine examples of praying stones (or sometimes cursing stones) along the top of the wall surrounding the well.
Carrowntemple is a fascinating landmark that contains a series of inscribed grave stones. Visitors can admire unique figures build into each stone and stop by the information board to learn more about the area's history and significance. Many of the slabs also feature clearly visible Celtic knots and patterns inscribed into the surface.
The Sligo Courthouse is recognised as a national landmark. The structure was built around 1878 and indues a four stage octagonal tower and dormered spire. Many gorgeous architectural features can be observed here, from the half glazed varnished oak doors to wrought iron gates and inset trefoil arches. The interior and exterior both showcase excellent craftsmanship with historic significance.
Carrowkeel found in County Sligo is home to many neolithic monuments as well as an ancient village. The area encompasses 180 house sites. The surrounding landscape is stunning, with the ridges over Lough Arrow nearby. Visitors can explore ancient history in a more personal way by walking the lands that our ancestors once travelled.
Ballinafad Castle is a quiet landmark that has stood for hundreds of years. Constructed between 1592 and 1601, this historic site was modelled after other 13th century castles that included a small central block with four enormous corner towers. Most of the entrance doorway along the first floor has been rebuilt.
The Addergoole Titanic Memorial Park commemorates the Titanic and the fourteen men and women of Addergoole who emigrated on it, eleven of whom died when the Titanic tragically sunk. The Addergoole Titanic Memorial Park contains a memorial for these brave men and women as well as being a beautiful place to for a quiet afternoon walk.
Rinville Park can be found a mere five miles outside of Oranmore. This breathtaking County Galway landmark was constructed in the 16th century. The grounds include a massive network of wooded walks as well as open farmland that borders the shoreline. Visitors can utilise a recreational facility while capturing gorgeous photos of the Irish landscape.
