Stunning location

Stunningly situated in the foothills of Southern Lakeland and within the Lake District National Park, close to extensive woodland and tumbling stream, this 1680s ‘Statesman’s House’ has been sympathetically modernised. Full of period features, it has oak beams fashioned from former ship’s timbers. The holiday home, and adjoining cottage, are quietly secluded at the end of an un-made leafy lane; peace and tranquility are guaranteed, overlooking an old damson orchard and the Winster Valley, the area is ideal for nature lovers. There are many pleasant walks from the doorstep, and the high fells are a short drive away. There is a great selection of pubs and inns close by. Bowness, Windermere village and Ambleside are within easy reach, as is Lake Windermere, England’s longest, with a dramatic backdrop of wooded slopes and bare fells, popular for watersports, the less energetic can enjoy a boat cruise from Bowness. The famous 18th-century domed villa on Belle Isle can be reached by ferry. Other nearby attractions include a Steamboat Museum and the visitors centre at Brockhole. At Far Sawrey is Beatrix Potter’s former home, Hill Top (NT) and Hawkshead village, whose grammar school was attended by Wordsworth. Also worth a visit is Brantwood, home of art critic John Ruskin. Other activities include climbing, biking, horse riding and NT properties and gardens. Shops and pubs 1½ miles, restaurant 5 miles.
