Situated in the lower part of the tiny hamlet of Thrupp, these two detached properties stand in the grounds of a manor house and lie adjacent to the 18th-century Oxford Canal. Offering wonderfully characterful accommodation for a holiday, they stand opposite one another: The Coach House (Ref NLX) is a spacious and imaginatively converted barn which overlooks open fields, whilst The Dovecote (Ref NLY) is a cosy little romantic hideaway for two.
In its day, the canal was a main artery to British industry, but in modern times, the barges move at a more relaxed pace. Thrupp starred as itself in the TV series Morse in the adaptation of Colin Dextor’s Last Bus to Woodstock. In Thrupp is The Boat public house with its open fire and beamed ceilings. A gentle, short stroll along the Oxford Canal towpath towards the nearby village of Kidlington leads to the Jolly Boatman on the A4260. Both pubs serve a selection of drinks and good food. There are many walks to be enjoyed nearby, either canal-side or through the owner’s managed woodland, along the banks of the River Cherwell, which is abundant with wildlife and birds. A ½-hour walk along the towpath or short drive in the car leads to Kidlington, which, recognised as the ‘largest village in England’, caters for every need - having several supermarkets, post office, chemists, launderette and various pubs and cafés. There is a nearby Park and Ride service into the city of Oxford as well as a regular bus service from the village. The M40 motorway is easily reached, connecting to either London or Birmingham in about 1 hour.
The properties make an ideal holiday base to explore the Cotswolds and Shakespeare’s Stratford-upon-Avon. The town of Woodstock, home to Blenheim Palace (birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill) and the village of Bladon (where Churchill is buried) are within 5 miles. Shops 2 miles, pubs ¼ mile.

Compact dining room/breakfast area/kitchen area. Shower room and toilet. First floor: Cosy galleried double bedroom with sitting area and four-poster bed. Note: This property was built as a dovecote in the 17th century and as such, is very small. Although compact, it does create a cosy annexe to The Coach House (Ref NLX) directly opposite.

Note: The Coach House NLX and The Dovecote NLY may be booked together to sleep up to 12 people
