This beautiful holiday home can best be described as a “Labour of love”, being the end one of a terrace of three straw bale barn cottages and the first terrace of cottages to be built from straw in the world! This type of property has been built in the U.K since around 1998 but for longer in the USA. The project has used 750 bales of locally grown straw, and the plaster has been excavated from local clay on site. It is environmentally friendly and superbly insulated and has a biomass boiler, under floor heating, hot water and a rainwater harvesting system for flushing the toilets (there is a back-up in times of low rainfall!). Situated overlooking farmland, on the edge of a pretty village, it has its own decked terrace and guests are encouraged to help with the feeding of the ducks, chickens, sheep, pigs and alpacas on the farm. An ideal holiday base to explore the historic attractions of the surrounding area, being only 7 miles from the cathedral city of Canterbury. Canterbury can also be explored by boat on the River Stour. Beaches can be reached at Hythe, or in the opposite direction, Whitstable is famous for its oysters. Further along the coast, you may be lucky enough to spot some seals. Kent boasts many castles including National Trust properties and has easy access to the Channel Tunnel at Folkestone or ferry from Dover to Calais - bring your passport and spend a day in France. Pay and play golf locally, 2 miles. Horse riding nearby. Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
