The farm offers excellent walks and the fields border the estuary where guests can bring their own rod for fishing. There is a local golf course where players and their families can use the club house restaurant and heated indoor swimming pool. For the cycling enthusiast there are several cycle routes. The little village of Upchurch with a corner shop and pub is under a mile’s stroll and steeped in history, originally settled by the Romans, there is a haul of Roman coins from here on display in the British Museum in London, and Sir Francis Drake’s father was vicar at the local church! The site is equipped with all the latest equipment to cater to beginners, those that want to enhance their skills and serious wakeboarders. The staff here are excellent, very friendly, attentive, patient and professional and safety conscious so you can rest assured you are in safe hands here. They operate a range of classes and lessons where you will learn how to get on the board right through to big air tricks. It is not as easy as it looks but nevertheless, a truly enjoyable and fun experience, at the end you will be exhausted but have a real sense of achievement. All equipment can be hired here so it is not necessary to take anything along. The facilities are very good and the hot showers are a warm welcome at the end of your session. The minimum age to take part is 8 so it is an event that most of the family can get involved in. Barnards Farm Miniature Railway is run by a team of volunteers, it opened back in September 2010 and has been a continual source of fun and enjoyment for families. The track is a 7 1/4 inch gauge that takes steam, diesel/hydraulic, petrol and electric locomotives, it runs from the car park to Belevedere Station and back which covers 1.4km, you can see the sculptures in the garden as you travel along. The train operates from April through to December on Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays as well as Saturdays in the summer months, it also opens for special open days at other times. A great place to visit especially if you have children that love Thomas the Tank Engine. Afterwards you can visit the gardens and enjoy some refreshments here in the welcoming and homely barn. The cost for the railway is very reasonable and once paid you have access to the trains all day. They do Santa Specials at Christmas time. The staff are lovely, really friendly and helpful. They are looking to extend the track so it will offer an even better experience. Barnards Farm Miniature Railway is a lovely day out for all the family, relaxing and fun, a real treat.

Staff are always close by if you encounter any problems, you will find them to be friendly, helpful and professional. They are also encouraging if heights aren't your forte. Prices are very reasonable and offer great value for money. They are open Tuesday to Sunday, and booking in advance is recommended, each session will last about an hour. Make sure to wear suitable footwear and clothing that you can easily move in. There is the Bunker or Canteen where you can get beverages and hot and cold snacks at reasonable prices. Rope Runners offers a fun and challenging activity that all the family can get involved in, the minimum age is six, you will be very popular if you take the children here on a day out.

Woodlands Manor Golf Club is a long established club, located in the valley and offers some spectacular views. It is an 18 hole par 69 mature parkland golf course. The course is well designed and maintained and in very good condition, the fairways play long, the greens are fast and the rough is thick . It is a testing course and will therefore, challenge all level of golf player, with its undulating fairways and alterations in elevation. There are beautiful views from some of the holes, the eigth hole in particular. You will find Woodlands to be a very welcoming and friendly club and the staff to be friendly, hospitable and most professional. The clubhouse is sociable and pleasant, there is a good food menu, the food is tasty and served promptly and offers excellent value for money. Other facilities here include a practise facility with grass driving range, short game area, chipping and putting greens and a practise bunker. The course is well maintained, the greens are fast and smooth. The most memorable hole on the course is the sixteenth. The club is very welcoming to non members and the staff throughout are very friendly, helpful and professional. The facilities here are very good and the clubhouse is comfortable and welcoming and they have a good menu, the food is very good, well cooked and presented and represents real value for money. There is also a putting green and practice green here. Bentley Golf Club is a great club to play, friendly staff, beautiful course and really reasonable green fees, it ticks all the boxes, highly recommended.

Witham Cricket Club is a long established club dating back to 1847 when it was initially founded. The grounds are conveniently located close to the town centre and extend to 10.5 acres, they are enclosed by trees and parkland. It is a friendly and welcoming club and is continually striving to improve its amenities and make for a more comfortable experience for members and visitors. What could be nicer on a sunny day than watching a cricket match unfolding as you relax in the peaceful surroundings whilst enjoying a cold drink.
Witham Bowls Club is a long established club dating back to 1904 when the club was first founded, and the sport was a popular pastime. In 1921 it moved to its present location amongst the pretty and peaceful surroundings in Collingwood Road. The club has both lady and gentlemen members and is welcoming to new members and guests. Formal gardens provide a peaceful, quiet spot for relaxation and reflection. Visitors can also look for rare plants, insects and the region's native wildlife.
Belfairs Wood, also called Hadleigh Great Wood, is a gorgeous expanse of natural beauty. The name was taken from a farm which used to operate on the site in the 1200s. The grounds currently encompass 84.7 hectares which includes a 50 hectare golf course. The park offers a tennis court, playground, basketball court, cricket field, football field, two bowling greens, riding stables, gardens and much more!
Noak Bridge Nature Reserve is located in Basildon Essex and consists of 20 acres of mixed grassland, scrub, woodland and small ponds. It is open every day and offers free entry to the general public and is wheelchair accessible. It provides a place of peace and tranquillity with two nature trails that you can follow and enjoy the scenery and sounds of the woodlands. There are also a number of rustic benches dotted around where you can sit and savour the peacefulness of the reserve. Noak Bridge Nature Reserve also serves as a natural habitat to a number of wildlife and insects, including butterflies, several species of dragonfly, whirligig bettles, frogs, newts, ducks, jays and woodpeckers . There are five permanent and two temporary ponds located here, that provide great growing conditions for a number of plants and shrubs as well as a home for grass snakes. The reserve is attended to by volunteers who do a great job in maintaining the area, they have installed bird nesting boxes and bat boxes in the quieter and more isolated areas of the reserve. If you are in the area take some time to visit Noak Bridge Nature Reserve it makes for a pleasant way to pass a few hours in lovely surroundings.

Whetmead Nature Reserve is located in an old landfill site that has developed into an important habitat for wildlife. This twenty five acre site is isolated as it is enclosed by the River Brain and Blackwater and by a main road. The area is predominantly rough meadow, grassland and lagoons, with a small waterfall. The meadow maintains plenty of plant and animal species and is bordered by scrub. The three linked lagoons permits nesting and aquatic birds to breed, there is a bird hide where you can observe the birds from, it also attracts a good variety of butterflies and dragonflies. Once you get away from the main road you enter a place of peace and calm where you can enjoy the picturesque walks and wildlife that has made their home here. Whetmead Nature Reserve is a pleasant sanctuary that allows you to enjoy the tranquilly and beauty of this area and the wildlife and plants that reside here.

Milton Creek Country Park is the latest green space in Sittingbourne, Kent. It is an enclosed space that provides a peaceful escape from the hustle of town life. It is the result of a large investment and is formed from a former landfill site that extends to 128 acres. This space has created a safe environment with a large natural play area, a community events space in addition to a large arrangement of paths through different areas that include meadows, scrub and aquatic habitats, with three purpose built lakes. The whole area serves as a home to numerous animal species, insects, flora and fauna, it also serves as a link between the town and the creek. Along the creek path you can observe the historic wharves and consider the history of the area, a number of barges remain in the creek now serving as excellent habitats for wildlife, previously they would have been used to transport bricks, paper and London's waste around the region. This country park is in its infancy but already is well established and serves the community well with many interesting walks that are all pretty level. It is looked after by rangers who ensure the park is well maintained and can be enjoyed by its users who include walkers, joggers and cyclists. In addition they organise a number of events, workshops and activities that families and young children can get involved with, information is on the notice boards at the entrances. Milton Creek Country Park is a great place for a stroll and a picnic to observe and enjoy the local wildlife and appreciate all that the park offers.

Curtis Wood Park is located on the edge of Herne, Kent, it consists of an area of protected open space, that has been awarded a Green Flag Award. The Nature Reserve extends to 4.5 hectares and is comprised of meadows, woodlands, scrub, pastures and a large pond. It offers local residents and visitors the chance to enjoy a selection of semi-natural habitats within a tranquil and relaxed setting that provides an important shelter for wildlife. You will find a wealth of wildlife, flora and fauna here including butterflies, insects, frogs, newts, rabbits, birds and in the springtime the bluebells carpet the meadow. There are large footpaths mown into the grass to provide access around the reserve in the summer months otherwise, the paths are narrow and uneven and mostly unsurfaced so not suitable to everyone. Capstone Farm Country Park is a premier green space covering 114 hectares of previous farmland on the North Downs, it is well maintained and clean. It is home to a diverse range of habitats comprising of ancient woodlands, old orchards, a freshwater lake, meadows and hedgerows. Tankerton Slopes is the area where the town of Tankerton meets Whitstable. It comprises of a large grass area that slopes down towards the beach, there are steps that lead down to the beach and there is a path that leads right along the coast. The Central Bandstand is an immediately recognisable and prominent feature along the coast here in Herne Bay. It can be dated back to 1924 and was further extend in 1934 with an art deco frontage and has underwent a careful restorative process in the late 1990's. Its purpose when it was initially erected was to host visiting military band concerts and for tea dances. Thorndon Country Park is divided into Thorndon Park North, that is home to the Countryside Centre and Thorndon Park South. The park covers hundreds of acres and was an ancient deer park that dates back to the 15th century. Within the park you will find a great variety of trees, grassland and three small lakes as well as a diverse range of habitats for the local wildlife. The Countryside Centre was constructed from timber salvaged from the 1987 storms, it is home to a permanent exhibition, a shop that sells gifts and refreshments. The park has lots to explore with its varying landscapes, and provides a number of lovely walks and cycle paths, you can take your own bike or hire one here, it is well laid out and sign posted. You can also horse ride here as long as you adhere to the areas marked with a blue arrow. Fishing is available, you are required to purchase a day ticket, you will find carp and bream here. Children will love the Woodland Walks, along the way you will find a number of play areas, wooden constructions and teepees, or they can climb trees and build dens. King George's Playing Fields are located in Brentwood and are situated close to the town. The park extends to seventy three acres and comprises of woodland, formal gardens, childrens play area, paddling pools, playing fields, bowling greens, crazy golf, skate park, cafe and a special garden for the blind with an assortment of plants that stimulate their other senses. The paddling pools are only open during the school summer holidays depending on the weather, it is only accessible to those under twelve years of age, sessions last two hours and attract a small charge. The Downs is an area of cliffs that slope down to the beach, there are flat grassy areas at the top, natural scrubland with various paths and below is a shingle beach. They extend to 7.5km and cover about 72 hectares. They run from the Hampton area in the west to Reculver County Park in the east, where you will find a visitor centre, with all the information you need and suggested routes. The scrubland provides a natural and important habitat for a wealth of bird and animals as well as being home to a number of valuable plant species too. The area provides the perfect spot to enjoy the outdoors with fabulous views, great walks, cycling, dog walking and an abundance of wildlife, flora and fauna. You will find information boards along the way telling you the points of interest and what birds, flowers and animals can be found here, as well as the different routes you can take. There are lots of benches to rest awhile and enjoy the scenery and peace and quiet. It is a popular area with families, who come to fly kites, have a picnic or just make the most of the open space. Kent and East Sussex Railway is the best example of a preserved rural light railway. The line commences at Tenterden and gently saunters along the ten and a half mile track through the glorious and natural countryside of the Rother Valley, with the line ending at the castle at Bodiam. It is home to a wealth of wildlife, flora and fauna and offers a variety of walks. It is well maintained and cared for by the rangers. The woodland play park offers a safe and fun environment for children. There are a number of barbecue and picnic areas dotted about. The park is open daily from 9.00am to 9.00pm. The theatre is comfortable and cosy, the seating is not tiered but you are still able to see the stage and it is very comfortable, the lighting and acoustics are very good. The staff are very friendly and helpful and further enhance the experience here. There is a full bar with waitress service during productions, drinks are reasonably priced. The hall is used for a number of purposes such as fetes, Xmas bazaars, music nights, comedy nights, craft fairs and much more. Prices for performances are very reasonable and you are assured a great night out. Witham Public Hall is a brilliant community venue and something that all towns should have.

Holy Trinity Church Sittingbourne, has a long history with a presence here in the town for more than six hundred years, it continues to offer a place of worship and reflection to the community. It enjoys a lovely location positioned right on the edge of the marshes. Sundays have regular worship services. They are a very friendly and welcoming congregation and extend a warm welcome to all visitors. This lovely church has many redeeming features, it is home to two organs which, is unusual, as well as claiming to have the thickest-walled Norman towers, that is home to six bells. The church is open to visitors every Friday afternoon and all day Saturday throughout the summer. Volunteers are responsible for the upkeep of the church and will happily show you around and answer any questions that you might have. Holy Trinity Church is a lovely church with lots of character and an ethereal atmosphere.
Royal Engineers Museum is located in a charming historic building in the centre of Gillingham, Kent. It is home to an interesting and impressive collection of military exhibits with more than one million items that includes, armoured vehicles, a Harrier Jump Jet,a V2, a piece of the Berlin Wall, uniforms, medals, even a Victoria Cross medal, exquisite silks from China, beautiful jewellery crafted by Zulu warriors in addition to an impressive photographic collection. In addition to the permanent exhibitions there are two temporary exhibition rooms where the displays frequently change. The medal room is particularly interesting especially the citations, it a true dedication to the bravery of soldiers who fought in the wars. You also get an insight into what the role of Royal Engineers are and the activities they undertake. Upstairs is a room where children can get dressed up in uniforms. The staff are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and will answer any questions that you might have. The museum is well laid out, the displays have lots of information about them. The museum is open every day except Mondays and there is a charge for entry although if you gift aid you can get unlimited entry for twelve months. There is a cafeteria where you get teas, coffees and light refreshments. They organise a series of events and exhibitions during the year including family fun days, night festivals and much more, it is worth checking these out. Royal Engineers Museum has so much to see and do, it is an informative and interesting museum, there is something to suit everyone, highly recommended.

Sittingbourne Heritage Museum is located in East Street between the shops. It is a small and relatively new museum with the collection only starting in 1970 by a local Councillor, today it is home to a large collection of items, memorabilia and artefacts representing a bygone era. There is lots of information pertaining to the cultural, heritage and history of the town with lots of emphasis on the war and its industrial past. The collections are well laid out and displayed. The Museum is open each Saturday from April onwards from 11.00am to 3.00pm, there is no charge for admission but, they do accept donations to help in the upkeep of the museum. Group visits can be arranged outside of these hours, by pre arranged appointment. The museum shop opens every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from from 1.30pm to 4.00pm. The volunteers are lovely, very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in answering questions on both the exhibits and local area. Sittingbourne Heritage Museum is a real gem of a local museum with lots of interesting information and facts waiting to be discovered, highly recommended.

All Saints Church is of historic and spiritual importance here in Whitstable and serves the community well, it is a lovely place to visit to appreciate the peace and harmony it offers.
Knole House is hidden away in a mediaeval deer-park amongst more than one thousand acres of parkland. It is an enormous estate that has a long and varied history dating back to 1456 when building commenced, eventually finishing in 1486 when it was commissioned by the Archbishop's of Canterbury and served as his palace, it was owned by royals and then passed to the Sackville family, by Queen Elizabeth I, and they have inhabited the house from 1603 through to the present. The house is splendid both inside and outside with numerous architectural delights, from the intricate plaster work, wooden panelling, fine paintings, antique furniture and much more. Located in the show rooms are works of art by Reynolds, Gainsborough and Van Dyck. The rooms that you can view as a visitor are astonishing and are resplendent with original furniture and fittings that are being carefully preserved for future generations. Close to the visitors entrance a video runs giving a synopsis of the history of Knole. There are volunteers in the house who are both friendly and knowledgeable and they will happily assist with any information you need. The house is open during the summer months from April through to November but, the grounds continue to be open throughout the year, along with the outdoor cafe. There is a charge for admission to the house. The grounds are extensive and offer lots of opportunity to explore, you can see the resident deer who roam the grounds, enjoy the beautiful gardens and the peace and tranquillity they offer. There are lots of walks to choose from that vary in distance. Throughout the year Knole House runs a series of events, exhibitions and activities to cater to all preferences, it is worth checking to see what is on. Knole House is of full of historical significance and gives a true insight into the grandeur of the past of this house and its inhabitants, it is an atmospheric and enthralling house that will leave you wanting to return.
Smallhythe Place is a charming historic house that was constructed in the early 16th century. It was the residence of the well known Victorian actress Ellen Terry, who bought it in 1899. The house serves as a memorial museum to her life having been established by her daughter Edith Craig in 1929 and is home to an intriguing personal and theatrical collection that accentuates her amazing career and unorthodox personal life. Within the grounds are a cottage garden and a delightful 17th century thatched Barn theatre that offers the chance to see a show with a regular programme of talks and shows, it is amazing to discover all the famous actors who performed here. They also host live productions from here, so worth looking out for these, it makes for a really special occasion. The main house is quintessentially an English cottage that has been well preserved and contains many of the original features and furniture and is pretty much as it was when she died. You will find a selection of her costumes, jewellery, loads of theatrical equipment, books, letters and lots more here. Outside are pretty gardens that include a pond. There is a nice cafe that serves light refreshments, freshly made and very good value for money. You can also buy garden produce whilst here. For younger visitors there is a quiz and also activity packs available. The property is open Wednesday through to Sunday and on Bank Holiday Mondays from March through to October, and there is a charge for entry. The staff are really nice friendly and approachable and with lots of knowledge on the house and its owner and have lots of stories to tell, making for an interesting visit, there is also a small booklet available. Smallhythe Place is a real gem, from its creaking and sloping floorboards to its intriguing history and lovely grounds, it has lots to offer and makes for a pleasant visit.

All Saints is recognised as the oldest building still standing in Birchington. Located at the village centre, the church is positioned approximately 3/4ths of a mile from the shore line. Although it is not confirmed, many historians believe that the site was home to a previous church during Saxon times. Many dramatic changes were seen throughout the years. No matter what has changed, the church still lights up at night to welcome wary travellers.

The current church dates to the 14th century and continues to be a place of worship, solace and reflection for those that enter through its doors. It still has regular services on a Sunday and Thursday. Many of the features in the church are thought to be the original including the porch, door and oak pews. The interior is decorative with stone quoins and columns, and the nave roof is pretty with its exposed rafters and beams. The bell tower extends to sixty five feet and is home to a peal of eight bells that hang from a cast iron frame, it is an impressive structure with large buttresses at the corners and gargoyles below the roof parapet. St Nicholas Church is a lovely historic church that offers a place of tranquillity and worship, very friendly and welcoming parishioners.
Crypt of St Leonard is one of only two ossuaries or charnel houses in England. This small crypt is home to the biggest and best-preserved group of ancient human bones and skulls in Britain. The crypt is well organised with the skulls arranged on shelves in four arched bays that comprise of a total of 1,022 skulls in addition to a single stack of thigh bones and skulls. It is not known exactly where or when these bones came from but it is thought that they were dug up from the graveyard during an extension of the church in the 13th and 14th centuries and stored here. It is a fascinating but macabre. The crypt is open daily and there is a small admission charge. Guides will give you a tour and you will find them to be friendly, knowledgeable and their talks are animated and full of information, they tell you about the various marks, holes and blemishes on the skulls. Crypt of St Leonard is a curious spot but very different, it is a unique experience and certainly worth a visit.

It is a gorgeous church with wonderful architecture and an extraordinary crypt, it is one of only two ossuaries in England. This tiny crypt is open throughout the week and there is a small charge for admission, here you will find the biggest and best-preserved collection of ancient human skull bones in Britain, they are organised on shelves in four arched bays, as well as a sole large stack of mostly thigh bones and some more skulls and are thought to date back to the 13th and 14th centuries. The church has an interesting and varied history and this is evident by the various additions made over the years, it also has many interesting features including the roof in the nave, vaulting to the chancel, the pulpit, marble reredos, stained glass window and organ. The church has a dominant musical heritage and a number of regular concerts and recitals are held here, ticket prices are very reasonable and the quality of the acoustics and performances are excellent. The guides are very friendly, knowledgeable and their talks are intriguing and animated. St Leonard's Church is an alluring place to visit from the weird but fascinating crypt to the architecture it has many fascinating features and wonderful views from the churchyard, definitely worth a visit.
