Just across the road from a superb, sheltered sandy beach, Pant-y-Llyn House is set off the west coast of Anglesey on beautiful Holy Island, often known as Mam Cymru – the Mother of Wales. With sea views from all front windows, this splendid and very spacious house has been very comfortably furnished and tastefully decorated and enjoys shared use of a large, lawned, south-east-facing garden. With its stripped-pine floors in many rooms, elegant cast-iron fireplaces, and enormous dining-room table, this is an ideal property for family gatherings. Just across the road, Trearddur Bay is an ideal swimming spot and is popular with divers for the clearness of the water, and surfers for the big rolling waves which sweep in when the wind is westerly.
Just 2 miles away, Holyhead, the largest town in Anglesey, has a Roman fortress, a church dating back 14 centuries, and for those wishing to go further afield, the century-old harbour, with its massive breakwater, offers day-trips to Ireland. Popular with visitors are the nearby tiny South Stack lighthouse island, with its cliff-top RSPB bird sanctuary, and Holyhead Mountain, which affords splendid views of the Isle of Man, Ireland and the Snowdonia mountains in clear weather. Valley (4 miles) has a charming village shopping complex.
Within easy driving distance are Beaumaris, with castle and restored Gaol, and the Snowdonia National Park – north Wales’ crowning glory, a tightly packed bundle of soaring cliff faces, jagged peaks and plunging waterfalls. Menai Bridge 20 miles. The university town of Bangor, 24 miles, is home to a cathedral boasting the longest continuous use of any cathedral in Britain, plus a museum and art gallery. Penrhyn Castle is a luxurious Norman fancy with a large private painting collection and Industrial Railway Museum in the grounds. Fishing, riding and golf locally. Shop ¼ mile.
