Enjoying a quiet, rural location surrounded by farmland and with private gated access, Mereclough Grange provides spacious and comfortable holiday accommodation, ideal for families and couples wanting to explore all that Lancashire and Yorkshire have to offer. Originally dating back to the 1700s and once home to the local monks, this stunning, detached home was completely renovated in the early 2000s with the owners lovingly putting it back together stone by stone. This sympathetic and painstaking restoration has resulted in a truly wonderful and charming family home, which still retains a host of character features including exposed stone work, beamed ceilings and stone archways. Additional features such as oak flooring, ash windowsills, solid oak studded doors, traditional reconditioned radiators (originally from a local school) and a rustic kitchen further enhance its charm and character. Whilst this home is bursting with character, it also has all the modern comforts you require from a holiday home with well-appointed bathrooms, spacious bedrooms, well-equipped kitchen with breakfast bar, separate utility, dining room and a comfortable living room with a stunning fireplace and cosy wood-burning stove. The outdoor space is equally impressive with a lawned garden at ground floor level, and an elevated patio/dining area that is accessed via stone steps.
Mereclough Grange is located along a quiet lane between the rural villages of Kelbrook and Foulridge. The area is perfect for walking and cycling with lots of footpaths in the area, including a circular walk around Lake Burwain in Foulridge, canalside walks and walks around Wycoller, Boulsworth, Trawden, Forest of Bowland (AONB) and Pendle Hill, famous for its witches. The famous Three Peaks are also accessible from here. Other activities available locally include leisure centres, golf and the urban altitude/archery/outdoor centre at Colne, 5 miles. There is a dry ski slope at Sabden near Clitheroe, 20 minutes’ drive away. The nearby village of Foulridge, 1 mile, offers boat trips along the Leeds/Liverpool canal. The nearest towns for shops, cafes and supermarkets are Earby or Barnoldswick, both approximately 2 miles. Colne offers a wider range of amenities and is also home to a fantastic retail outlet. Children will enjoy Thornton Hall Farm, Hesketh Farm and the Forest of Bowland’s Wild Boar Park, or other places of interest nearby include Bolton Abbey and Settle.
Being on the Lancashire/Yorkshire border, you are surrounded by spectacular scenery and there is lots to see and do. Yorkshire offers the popular market towns of Skipton with its castle, 10 miles, Grassington, 18 miles, Haworth/Brontë country, 14 miles, Malham, 16 miles, Harrogate, 30 miles and of course the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Lancashire offers the Ribble Valley, 17 miles, Pendle Hill, 10 miles and the Forest of Bowland (AONB). For those who want to take a break from driving, Skipton and Colne both have train stations, providing easy access into Manchester, Leeds and Preston, as well as the famous Settle/Carlisle railway. For those who prefer a coastal landscape, the Fylde Coast is very accessible and Blackpool can be reached in around 45 minutes. The Lake District can also be reached in just over an hour, making this the ideal base for a holiday that is as relaxing or as action-packed as you would like. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
