Commanding stunning, uninterrupted views over the sea, this beautiful, detached, Grade II listed home provides an ideal holiday retreat. In an enviable location, slightly elevated and nestled by a fine pub in the historic hamlet of Bonchurch, it offers a combination of ‘old and new’ accommodation, with a mixture of antiques. The many character features of this property include a stone exterior, wooden floors, flagstones, feature fire surrounds, an Aga, exposed stone and brick walls in the family/games room, sash windows and French doors leading to an attractive garden. Flanked by the St Boniface Down, the rear garden has steps, tiers and terraces with sitting out areas, a peaceful place to enjoy an aperitif or al fresco dining and savour one of the beautiful sunsets. This area is famous for its past literary residents, and Hillside Cottage is no exception. It was formerly the home of Charles Dickens’ personal illustrator, John Leach, and Dickens was reputed to be a frequent visitor. There are miles of glorious scenic walks around this quaint part of the island, including the unspoilt beach at Bonchurch leading to a leisurely half hour walk to the popular town of Ventnor. Bonchurch also has a pretty pond, pottery, two historic churches, a bistro and pub. There are many attractions, festivals and theme parks on the island: Blackgang Chine, The Needles rock formations and theme park, Sandown Zoo, Island Pottery and glass making, donkey sanctuary, pearl factory, the famous yachting mecca of Cowes, Queen Victoria’s beautiful former holiday abode, Osborne House, Carisbrooke Castle, the magical walk Shanklin Chine, steam railway, various NT homes and gardens, wildlife centres, Ventnor Botanical Gardens with rare flora and fauna, Tennyson Trail and Calbourne Mill. For the outdoor enthusiast, golf, watersports, rambling, bird watching, crabbing, fishing, cycling or riding can all be found locally. There are many quaint villages, coves, bays and stunning coastal walks to discover. Shop ½ mile, pub with restaurant 50 yards.

Large living/dining room with French doors and two feature gas ‘coal-effect’ fires. Kitchen with Aga (for cooking) and flagstone floor. Utility. Games room with TV. Separate toilet. First floor: Three double bedrooms. One bunk bedroom. Bathroom with Victorian roll-top bath, separate shower cubicle and toilet. Separate toilet.
