This charming, mid-terraced, thatched holiday cottage dates back to the 17th century, with a large inglenook fireplace, original wooden floors and beams. A small lawned garden area to the rear with a covered gazebo offers a private and secluded space to sit out. It is well situated in the centre of the picturesque village of Downton, 6 miles south of Salisbury and just on the edge of the New Forest. This attractive historical village has thatched cottages and village greens on the River Avon, rising up to the ancient church of St Lawrence. Visitors can enjoy the Cuckoo Fair held on the first bank holiday Saturday of May with its hundreds of stalls and street activities. This event has been a feature of village life since the 16th century. Within a 15-minute drive is the northern perimeter of the New Forest National Park, and a little over half an hour’s drive following the River Avon on its journey south, is Christchurch on the Dorset coast. Visitor attractions in the surrounding area are numerous - there are houses and gardens of great beauty including Wilton House, Breamore, Heale House, Longleat House and Safari Park and Stourhead, as well as Britain’s most famous prehistoric monument, the World Heritage site of Stonehenge. A short drive away is medieval Salisbury with its magnificent 13th-century cathedral and cathedral close, Charter Market Place and extensive range of shops, pubs, pavement cafés and restaurants. The city also has a leisure centre with indoor swimming pool, theatre and arts centre. Shop, pub and restaurant 50 yards.
