This delightful cottage, swathed in wisteria, is tucked away behind Dorset House (NLQ) situated in the high street. Set in the garden of the main house, it offers tranquil relaxation, just a 2-minute walk from the centre of Alcester. This holiday cottage has an open fire in the living room and patio doors lead out to a sitting area overlooking the garden - where kingfishers can sometimes be spotted. From the patio garden leading down towards the River Arrow is the owners’ large walled garden, which is a nature lover’s delight. Cheltenham is only a one hour drive away. Shops 100 yards, pub 50 yards.

From the summit of the Tower you can see for an interval of 62 miles, in fact you can see 16 counties from here, it has astounding vistas. The clubhouse has a lovely ambience and enjoys nice views out over the 18th green, they serve a nice selection of dishes, that are well cooked and presented and offer great value for money too. Quarry Park Disc Golf is a fairly new concept and a variation of the traditional game of golf, in that you have to get a Frisbee disc in a basket in as few tries as possible, there are 27 Innova Discatcher baskets on the course. As with regular golf there is a short course of 16 holes of 50m, or the regular course that is 18 holes of 90m. The facility is set on 15 acres of stunning countryside, the land has been especially designed for disc golf. Disc Golf is a fantastic sport for all ages and abilities, it allows you to get out in the fresh air, mingle and most importantly it is fun. The course here at Quarry Park has been built so that it can accommodate both beginners to the game and pros. What is also great about this game is that it can be done in groups, they can cater for groups of up to ten and you can just turn up and play, it is not necessary to book. To play disc golf you just need to turn up and visit the pro shop where you can hire/buy all the equipment needed, they have thousands of disc to choose from. You are given an instruction on how to hold and throw the disc, a map and scorecard and off you go. Quarry Park Disc Golf makes for a great fun day out and the staff here make the experience wonderful, they are so friendly and enthusiastic about the sport. A network of footpaths and bridleways and 4 waymarked trails cross the park's 180 acres of woodland, meadows and wetland. There is a tea room and visitor centre, which can be hired for special occasions.
A wonderful park, planted in memory of the Caldecott family with beautiful, colourful flower beds. Often featured on 'Britain in Bloom', this award winning park is an oasis in the centre of a busy shopping area. It also has a children's playground, a band stand and tennis courts.
HIllfield Gardens have a long and interesting history, particurarly with regard to leprosy and disease control in the city, and can be dated back to around 1869. These secluded gardens were planted to compliment the intricate Victorian Hillfield House that stood on these grounds. Today a lot of work is been undertaken to bring them back to their former glory, they still provide a place of beauty and an air of peace and tranquillity within, the town. Within the garden there are three mature Redwood trees, a champion oak and some of the oldest surviving trees to be found in Gloucester. In addition there are three important historical monuments: Scriven's Conduit, the King's Board and the chancel of the 12th century leper chapel of St Mary Magdalene. During a recent archaeological dig they have uncovered the remains of a Roman road and there are lots of ancient gravestones that make for interesting reading. They are a number of events that take place in the grounds during the year including music concerts. Hillfield Gardens provide a nice choice of walks and lots of room for young children to run free, climb and explore, they provide for a fun and enjoyable environment for all.
Imagination Street is an indoor childrens play centre that offers a safe and fun environment. They are located in Bromsgrove, in a modern, bright and airy building. There is lots for younger visitors to enjoy here with a fabulous play frame complete with a huge slide, zip wires and ball pools, there is also a baby sensory room, interactive football zone, imagination zone, Playstation and library room, dressing up as well as a formula one race track, it is crammed full of fun things to do. There is a nice coffee shop that serves a good selection of beverages, snacks and hot and cold dishes that are tasty and well priced. With lots of seating in comfy leather sofas you can relax and observe as the children play. It is well maintained and spotlessly clean. Staff are friendly and very helpful. The centre is open daily and is open from 10am to 6pm Monday to Friday and from 10.30am to 5.30pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays. Imagination Street offers children ample space to run around and lots to engage them during a visit, prices are very reasonable and the facilities are very good and well looked after with friendly staff, great for young families.

It is a purpose built theatre building and was originally described as a miniature opera house with all modern facilities. Today it is a significant historic building, still retaining its original decor, charm and beauty. They host a full, diverse and interesting range of professional productions and top acts that include comedy, drama, dancing, concerts, tribute acts, plays and much more. This intimate theatre has all modern conveniences and technology, the sound and lighting is excellent and seating is comfortable and offers excellent views of the stage. The bar area is lively and bustling, it can get busy, there is a good choice of beverages and snacks. Staff are friendly and helpful and the theatre has a lovely friendly and welcoming atmosphere. It is possible to take a tour of this lovely historic building where you will be introduced to the architecture of the well known designer Bertie Crewe, told the history of the building and how it is run today. Tours are both interesting and informative and it is necessary to book them in advance. Palace Theatre is a real gem offering a fabulous choice of productions in a lovely venue with a great atmosphere, ticket prices are very reasonable and you are assured a fantastic night out. Should not be missed if you are in the area.
Evesham Arts Centre is a premier entertainment venue and provides a varied schedule of events from live concerts, dance, drama, comedy, pantomimes, musical theatre, workshops and much more. It is a major part of the community and has a philosophy to encourage both performing and visual arts. In addition to showing professional artists and productions they host amateur productions and local community groups. Cotswold Lavender are probably the prettiest and nicest smelling fields that you will ever see, you are invited to come and visit them on their farm to see for yourself the beauty of these fields. Generally open from June to August when the lavender is in bloom, you are welcome to come and walk the fields and distillery. The harvest will take place when the crop is ready and this cannot be predetermined, it then needs to be distilled immediately after cutting, it is only on these times that the distillery will actually be operational. Located in a splendidly renovated Cotswold Stone barn on the premises are the lovely Gift Shop and Tea Rooms. The Gift Shop stocks the complete range of products they sell from lavender plants, dry lavender bunches, the best English Lavender Essential Oils and their best seller the Slumber Gel, there are loads more products available here. The Tea Rooms are cosy and welcoming and sell refreshments and light snacks as well as a selection of cakes and pastries for your enjoyment. Cotswold Lavender offers a unique and unusual day out that is interesting and enjoyable for all the family.
The Court Barn is an old tithe barn that itself is interesting but, housed in this historic structure is an exhibition relating to the Arts and Crafts movement in Chipping Campden. The exhibits on show are well presented and are all relevant to the local area or by local artists showcasing their works and talent. The staff here are very friendly and enthusiastic and really enhance your visit to the Court Barn. It is an intimate venue but the quality of work on display is fantastic and there are some really nice and unique items available to purchase. There are some interesting videos that demonstrate how certain items are made. It does not take you very long to get around the museum but, nevertheless it is interesting and informative and throws considerable light on the Arts and Crafts movement and its legacy here in the Cotswolds. If you are in the area then a visit to the court Barn Museum is worthwhile.
Ernest Wilson Memorial Garden are dedicated to the memory of a local, Ernest "Chinese" Wilson who became a well known plant hunter who operated from the USA, his expeditions took him all over China, Japan, Korea and much of Asia. The gardens offer a place of peace and tranquillity in Chipping Campden, they are beautiful and well maintained. You will find some unusual and rare plants here that were originally brought back from Asia, they are all labelled which, is helpful. In fact he introduced more than 1,200 species of trees and shrubs. There is a story board that illustrates the life and exploits of Ernest Wilson in China, and his later years, it is very informative and interesting. The gardens are hidden away behind a brick wall that faces the high street and is accessed via a little Tudor archway. There are lots of benches where you can sit and enjoy the calming atmosphere. The gardens rely on donations and there are boxes for contributions. If you are interested in plants and trees and want to know where they came from and when they were brought into the country you will find all this and more here at the Ernest Wilson Memorial Garden. The Old Silk Mill offers a cooperative of more than twenty artists and craftspeople a venue to showcase their crafts and talents in this historic building. The Old Silk Mill is also known as the home of C.R Ashbee's world acclaimed Guild of Handicraft who inhabited the property from 1902 to 1908. There continues to be a representative of the Guild at the Old Silk Mill through Hart Goldmiths and Silversmiths and you can see these and other artists at work here, it is like stepping back in time. In addition they are more than happy to discuss their work with you. The Old Silk Mill provides the perfect conditions to exhibit these works in a bright and airy environment with a welcoming atmosphere. You will find a combination of contemporary and traditional craftspeople, they include artists, ceramicists, designers, furniture makers, glass makers, metal workers, photographers, sculptors, stone carvers, textile artists and wood carvers. The aim of the co-operative is to help expose and develop the artists profiles and allow people to meet them and discuss their works. Each member will have the opportunity to administer the co-operatives numerous exhibitions. The gallery is open each day from 10am to 5pm. There is a lovely coffee shop that has a inviting and relaxed ambience where you can enjoy a good selection of tea and coffees and some delicious cakes/biscuits that offer great value for money. Do take the time to visit the Old Silk Mill it is a true working museum and has a really nice selection of exhibits and also offers the opportunity to purchase a unique gift.
The Richard Hagan Gallery focuses on Original Contemporary British Art, it is housed in a charming 17th century building that is full of character. The gallery is open daily during the year and has a continually altering display of excellent paintings and sculptures, in addition to some permanent displays. During the year there are three inclusive group exhibitions. The main focus at this gallery is on the finest in Scottish contemporary and Cornish art. The paintings and objects on display here lean more to the modern representational and abstract.
The Loft Theater has had a long standing of producing live theatre in Leamington Spa, and caters to the local and surrounding areas. Managed by a team who are predominantly volunteers, they strive to bring professional standards to all their community based theatre as well as a diverse programme of events. Annually they produce about 9 shows for the main auditorium and less for the smaller Douglas Ford studio theatre. They engage in all aspects of theatrical styles from classic to modern, tragedy to comedy and musical theatre. Everyone will find a production here that will appeal to them. Dudley Canal Trust Trips offer frequent guided boat trips through the impressive network of tunnels that were built to transport the raw materials that were so important to the industrial revolution that transpired here back in the 1830's. Your guided tour will involve videos, lifelike reconstructions and amazing music and light shows. The trip takes about 45 minutes and is interesting and informative and the guides are brilliant so, enthusiastic, entertaining and knowledgeable, they make the whole experience first class. There are other tours that are longer and cover other canals that you can take, they are popular and book up so will need to book in advance if interested. You will not be able to comprehend that this network of tunnels runs under Dudley town it is quite remarkable. Echills Wood Railway is a 7 1/4" gauge track, that operates both steam and diesel locomotives, it is located at Kingsbury Water Park. The railway is open every Sunday from 11.00am to about 15.30pm, the hours can be longer in the summer months. The running of the trains is dependent on weather conditions. The fares are very reasonable, a single ticket is £1 and the length of the journey is 1km and lasts about 7 minutes, a return journey is £2 and the ride is 2 kilometres and takes about 15-20 minutes. The train ride is excellent fun, you go over bridges and through tunnels and there are even audio signals. Take time to visit the Station Masters Garden Railway which, is located at the rear of the main Harvesters station on EWR. The railway runs on most normal operating days, using a range of models powered by either battery or live steam on a 32mm gauge track. You can take the opportunity to drive your own model train here but, need to arrange in advance with EWR. Echills Wood Railway operate a number of different events throughout the year with Santa specials and Halloween events, they are very popular and do get busy so need to be booked well in advance. The smell of the steam and sounds of the locomotives is very comforting and nostalgic. Echills Wood Railway is a fun activity that everyone can enjoy and so reasonable too, the ride is thoroughly enjoyable, highly recommended.

Kingsbury Water Park is a first class water attraction in Warwickshire, it is located in 600 acres of country park and contains 15 lakes. The park is open everyday except Christmas day and there is no charge for entry but, the car park does charge a nominal fee and you will need to have cash to pay as they do not accept cards. The park offers a place of peace and tranquillity away from the bustle of the town where you can enjoy this piece of glorious countryside. As you walk along the pathways, watch out for the local birds and wildlife, hire a bike or take along your own and enjoy the many attractions here. Children will love exploring the park and all the space they have to run around, as well as the adventure playground, children's farm and the miniature railways. Tunnel Brewery are based at Red House Farm, in Ansley, a lovely part of the country. It is a micro-brewery that produces a good range of craft beers and ales and has a loyal following. They run an excellent brewery tour that takes you through the history of the brewery and then advises on the complete brewing process from picking the quality raw materials from local sources through to the mashing room, then fermentation and the end product, where you get to sample a selection of their beers accompanied by some nice nibbles, that complement the various strengths of beer available. They continue to use traditional brewing methods. It is necessary to book a tour in advance, they are reasonably priced and last about two hours. Mike the guide is very friendly and knowledgeable and the tours are very interesting and entertaining and were pitched at just the right level, with lots of humour. There is the opportunity to buy their lovely beers as well as a selection of cheeses, great value and make lovely gifts for any beer lover. Artifex is a lovely gallery that has the best in modern British art and craft, and has a lovely warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff are extremely friendly, very professional and knowledgeable and happy to help in any way they can. The 3,000 square foot gallery is packed with handcrafted jewellery, ceramics, sculpture, furniture, metalwork, woodwork and contemporary art pieces. Artifex is different in that you will only find unique pieces that are of high quality available here. The first floor gallery is committed to paintings, they are all originals and at anytime you will find 18 artists works on show in the gallery. In addition they run exhibitions of one person shows that feature a number of their works. The furniture gallery concentrates in 'one-off' modern pieces that are manufactured by Britian's premier furniture makers. You can commission your own individual piece or select from the large selection of items on display. Artifex is open every day and should be visited if you are in the area, you might find an unusual and unique item to take home or just enjoy the delightful pieces that are on show.
The Big Play Barn is located in Middleton, near Tamworth, it offers a a safe and friendly environment for children to play in. It consists of a large play area that has slides, ball pits, rope bridges and much more. Outside the fun continues with a giant outdoor pillow, water zorbing and giant inflatable obstacle course obviously these are dependent on the weather. Often there are activities taking place that the children can get involved in. There is plenty of seating available both inside and outside where you can sit and observe. The venue is clean and well maintained and the facilities are excellent. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The cafe is welcoming and has a nice selection of freshly made home cooked light lunches and hot and cold dishes as well as cakes and ice creams. They are open daily from 9.30am to 6.30pm and prices are very reasonable. It is very popular so can get busy but still offers plenty of opportunity for the children to run around and have fun. The Big Play Barn is a great family attraction whatever the weather, children can let off steam in a safe and fun environment whilst you relax with a coffee. Highly recommended a great friendly attraction with loads on offer to keep children entertained.
Church End Brewery is located in a renovated social club close to the town of Nuneaton in Warwickshire. It started business with the principle to make a diverse choice of cask conditioned beers, using good quality raw materials and absolutely no processed sugars. Using this formula the first brew was produced on 1 August 1994 and they have continued using this principle to date. They now have more than forty unmistakable products ranging from Fruit Beers made with real fruits to Honey Beers produced with real homey and many more unique and individual beers. Needless to say output has also increased greatly as the popularity of these brews has grown and they have won many awards over the years. These brews can be enjoyed in the pleasant surroundings of The Tap Room or The Vestry where you can enjoy the vibrant atmosphere whilst sampling your favourite brew why not complement it with some locally sourced cheeses or a pork pie, alternatively you can take along you own food as long as it is not hot or strong smelling. They offer tours of the facilities where you can see first hand the brewing process from selection of the quality ingredients through to the final product. Tours operate during normal working hours and have to be booked in advance, they generally take place on a Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Church End Brewery is the perfect place to come if you are a beer fan, a fantastic diverse selection of brews in a lovely friendly and relaxed environment as well as a wonderful beer garden if it is a pleasant day, could not fault it.
The Crew is located in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. It is a true rock bar, the walls are full with signed rock memorabilia and has many genuine pieces of rock history including a signed Oasis guitar. It is a vibrant and energetic bar and always has something happening whether it is karaoke, jam nights, live music or a rock DJ on the decks. It is extremely popular owing to the fantastic range and quality of acts they have on the stage and has an electric atmosphere. The theatre has quite an intimate feel and consists of a three-tiered Victorian auditorium and a beautiful interior with many fine period features and stunning architecture, particularly the ceiling. The Grand Theatre is a delightful venue that is warm and welcoming and with such a huge range of productions there is something to suit everyone and ticket prices are very reasonable so definitely worth coming to see a show here.
Light House Media Centre is located in the historic Chubb Buildings, it is an independent cinema, complete with two screens, three galleries and a cafe bar, an ideal meeting place if you are in the town. The building has lots of interesting architectural features and has a friendly and welcoming ambience. It Is a cultural centre for the community and proudly hosts a diverse filled programme of events and shows, including opera, ballet, music, theatre screenings, big budget movies, independent productions, foreign films, archive films, contemporary films, indie films and much more. The galleries serve as an ideal backdrop for local and other contemporary artists to exhibit their work. There is a bar cafe that opens throughout the day and serves a good selection of beverages and light snacks and refreshments, with its glass-roofed courtyard you can seat outside regardless of the weather. West Park is a Victorian municipal park that encompasses around 43 acres and includes a lake and beautifully landscaped green spaces. It is ideally located close to the city centre and is thought to be one of the finest, natural Victorian parks remaining in England. It original purpose was to serve as an area for certain sporting activities namely, bowls, archery and cricket. Today it still serves the community and has tennis courts and a bowling green other features include, a boating lake, children's play area, heated Victorian conservatory that is open from 10am to 4pm most days except Tuesday and Wednesdays. The chalet tearooms are cosy and inviting and serve a nice selection of beverages and light snacks, that are reasonably priced. There are loads of areas to enjoy a picnic and admire the stunning plants, flowers, shrubs and trees as well as the peace and tranquillity the park offers. Gloucester Archives is the place to come if looking to get information on former residents, local and family history resources relating to Gloucestershire. The archives are available to the public and can be accessed in the public research room here. Records here go back as far as 1100 right through to present day and include millions of records that have been donated or loaned to Gloucester Archives, it is one of the foremost preserved collections in Britain. The centre is open Tuesday through to Friday and a half day on a Saturday, and there is no charge although donations are appreciated to enable them to keep the service open. The public research room and facilities do not require advance booking you can just call in however, you will need recognised identification and are required to complete a registration form. It is probably best to order documents in advance so that they are available this can be done by looking at the Online catalogue. The staff here are brilliant, very helpful, obliging and professional. You also get free Internet access to the genealogical sites from here too. Gloucester Ski and Snowboard Centre is the utmost place to come to for a true snowsport experience all year round. There is so much to get involved with here and it offers fun, excitement and thrills for all ages and abilities. It boasts the longest dry ski slope in England and Wales as well as having the only permanent Big Airbag in the UK. There are so many activities available with skiing, snowboarding, tubing and snoxross bikes. The equipment is all well maintained and before you start an activity you are given a safety briefing and talked through the equipment. Please be aware that all participants aged under 16 are required to wear a ski helmet on the slopes, they can be hired here too. The staff are fantastic, friendly, professional and enthusiastic, nothing is too much effort for them. There is a cafe that serves a selection of snacks and drinks a nice place to chill and recover after time spent on the slopes. Gloucester Ski and Snowboard Centre is a great year round attraction that can be enjoyed by all ages and fitness abilities, fun for all, highly recommended.
There are five Shakespeare houses, and they are all excellent destinations for children as well as for educational groups of all ages. Accompanying lectures are also available — particularly useful if you are currently studying Shakespeare. However, if you're not a student, just a fan of the work, these houses are well worth a visit!
Almonry Heritage Centre is located in a stunning 14th Century building that is full of charm and character. It has had many purposes over the year from an ale house, offices, private home; today it contains a unique compilation of artefacts in addition to exhibitions that describe major events relating to the region including, the history of the great abbey and the defeat of Simon de Monfort, as well as covering the growth and development of Evesham over time. The house in particular is an amazing representation of early English architecture, it has a number of rooms that each house different collections with items from prehistoric times to the 20th Century and include items such a 18th Century clothing, medieval artefacts, furniture, tools and weapons, machinery and much more. Outside there are lovely gardens and again more pieces on display, it is peaceful and tranquil here and you can easily pass a few minutes or hours here. Almonry Heritage Centre is informative and interesting, through the visual exhibits you get a real glimpse into a past era and the lives of the people then, the guides are friendly and informative, a great place to visit for all ages.

St James' Church is a prominent landmark here in Chipping Camden and this majestic church has been standing here since the 1400's, and can be seen for miles around. It is a renowned Perpendicular Wool church and one of the finest examples in England. There are cards available to allow you to take a self guided tour, it will not take you very long to see this church nevertheless it is still interesting with many lovely features, including medieval altar frontals, medieval cope, stone sculptures, stained glass windows, tapestries and works of silk. Outside there is an old graveyard and the headstones and tombs make for interesting reading and there are some lovely views out over the stunning surrounding countryside. The church relies on donations for its upkeep so there are boxes around where you can make a donation. The church extends a warm and welcoming greeting to all who visit and you are invited to join them in worship, there are services every Sunday and there are other special services throughout the year. If you get to hear the organ being played it is a mesmerising sound. St James' Church is a true gem and if you are in the area make time to visit this beautiful and historic building, you will not be disappointed by it.
Grevel House is located at the north end of Campden, and is the town's oldest house. It is an excellent illustration of 14th century architecture, in the Perpendicular Gothic style, with its elegantly decorated windows, its gargoyles, their purpose was to scare away bad spirits as well as acting as rain spouts, and sundial. This historic house was the home of William Grevel and is the first great wool mansion, having chimneys as opposed to just holes in the roof. William Grevel was one of the country's most effective wool merchants. At the time his home would have been surrounded by wattle and daub huts, so you get a perspective of his immense wealth. Unfortunately you can't get inside the house but can admire its beauty from outside.
Gordon Russell Design Museum is a dedication to the life and work of one of Britain's foremost design pioneers, his life spanned many amazing events and changes and these are all documented here. The museum is actually located in the original workshop, and is a celebration of his life and work, over a period of 60 years. Gordon Russell was an extremely talented man and had many skills, he was a furniture designer and maker, calligrapher, entrepreneur and champion of accessible well crafted design. He trained locally and had a belief that a good design could have consequences on peoples lives. He continued to pursue quality and craftsmanship even when he introduced machinery. He was heavily involved in promoting Britian's design industry following the end of World War II, his persistence and dedication had a lasting impression and effect on British industry, design and education. The museum houses a unique collection of furniture that covers many eras from the Arts and Crafts movement right through to the 80's and the introduction of utility furniture. To support these stunning pieces there is a huge archive of authentic drawings, notebooks, catalogues and correspondence in addition to admittance to the firm's original reference library. The museum is an interesting and engaging space that is educational and interesting simultaneously, a great day out for all, the guides are informative and friendly and the furniture on show is superb.
The Lord Leycester Hospital is the "crown of Warwick historic buildings." This handsome and sprawling facility was a charitable institution for the housing and care of the needy, aged and infirm. Despite the name, it was never actually a medical establishment. Today the landmark still stands as a beautiful example of a timbre framed buildings that date back to the 14th century.

New Hall Mill is one of only two that still survive in the Birmingham region. This privately-owned landmark is a registered charity. The mill is surrounded by the New Hall Valley country park, but it is not technically a part of the park. The building has been restored to bring it back to working condition. Nuneaton Museum and art Gallery is positioned in the gorgeous setting of Riversley Park, it is housed in a beautiful historic building. It is home to a permanent display of art and social history covering local fossils through to the late 19th and 20th century, consisting of more than 15,000 items, including fine and decorative art, photographs, pictures and much more. There are several items relating to Larry Grayson a well known former resident. In addition there is a gallery committed to the famous local writer George Eliot, with lots of information on her works and life. Additionally there is a frequently changing temporary exhibitions programme. It is not a large museum but there is loads here to see. They host during the year a series of events, talks, storytelling and activities aimed at the local community, and for all ages. They are open Tuesday through to Saturday from 10.30am until 4.30pm and on Sundays the opening hours are 2.00pm to 4.30pm, there is no charge for entry. There is a small cafe serving a good selection of beverages and snacks that are reasonably priced, on a nice day you can sit outside and enjoy the park setting. Staff are very friendly and helpful and will answer questions on the museum and local area. Nuneaton Museum and Art Gallery is a must if you want to learn more about George Eliot, the remainder of the museum is still interesting and there are lots of activities to entertain younger visitors. Well worth a visit if you are in the area, you will easily pass a few hours wandering around.

Bantock House is situated in 43 acres of parkland and is enclosed by lovely formal gardens. The house has underwent considerable care and restoration to bring it back to its original glory and now it is a valuable part of the history of Wolverhampton. The house offers the opportunity to delve into the history of the town and its people during the Edwardian period, through exhibits. The former home of the Bantock family it is has a delightful interior and many fine features including, carved oak panelled rooms, decorative glass, tiles and period furnishings influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement. On display in the house are a diverse collection of items not least locally made enamels, japanned ware, papier mache, jewellery, toys, dolls and pre-Raphaelite paintings. To entertain the younger visitors there are a range of activities taking place all over the house and lots of exhibits that you can touch and even costumes to try on. The Dutch gardens, sunken garden and rose gardens are all beautiful and absolutely stunning when in full bloom and the scents that permeate the air are gorgeous. The courtyard cafe is cosy and inviting and serves a nice choice of beverages and homemade food, The museum shop is a nice place to stop before leaving to pick up a memento or gift, they have a good choice of cards, gifts and traditional children's toys. The staff are very friendly and informative and happy to impart their knowledge about the house and the towns history. Bantock House Museum is open throughout the year, there are different opening times for winter and summer and you can get details from the website. There is no charge for entry to Bantock House Museum although donations are welcome. Bantock House will appeal to all ages and makes for a fun and interesting family day out in beautiful surroundings.

Wightwick Manor Gardens is a stunningly beautiful house that celebrates the Arts and Crafts movement. In 1937 Geoffrey Mander MP convinced the National Trust to acquire a house that was just fifty years old at the time but, was already an artefact of a past era owing to the style in which his parents had decorated its interiors, influenced by William Morris and his Arts and Crafts colleagues. The house is very interesting and has lots of lovely furniture. Geoffrey and his wife continued to live in the house as its live-in curators and continued to enhance the collection of art in the house by adding a stunning compilation of Pre-Raphaelite paintings by Rossetti, Millais, Byrne-Jones and their followers. You can take a guided tour of the house, you will find the guides to be friendly, informative and animated about the house, family and its history making for an interesting and informative tour. The gardens are beautiful, they are delightful to walk around and so peaceful and also have picnic areas for your enjoyment. There is also a lovely tea shop that is warm and inviting, it is located in a converted stable block and has some nice features like old saddles and other items of memorabilia, it serves a delightful selection of refreshments, hot and cold meals and light snacks, all reasonably priced. The shop has an unusual selection of gifts and souvenirs to take home with you. Wightwick Manor and Gardens are open throughout the year, although on certain days the house might be closed so best to check the website first. In addition they run events throughout the year and again you can get these dates from the website. Wightwick Manor Gardens is a delightful house full of history and lots of interesting features the perfect place for a day out.

Gloucester Folk Museums is an important stop in the historical tour of the city and they have a comprehensive programme of events, that incorporates talks, tours, clubs, exhibitions and activities. The programme is continually changing so it is always worth checking to see what will be taking place. The museum is located in a gorgeous Tudor building and is over several levels and there are some narrow sections as well, so it might not be accessible for all. The museum is filled to the roof with lots of interesting items that cover the history of days gone by and Gloucester. Some of the permanent features includes the cobbler's shop, World War artefacts and equipment, a room from the 60's in London, old farming equipment and tools as well as a stake where Bishops were burnt! There are lots to keep smaller visitors occupied as well with activities, like brass rubbings, questionnaires to complete and old toys to see, colouring and a play area. The exhibits are well displayed and have lots of information on them. Although there is no cafe onsite you can access a catering area and make your own drink from a pod or take a picnic to enjoy in the lovely garden area. The staff are friendly and helpful and are available if you have any queries. Gloucester Folk Museum is a gem of a museum a real treasure throve just waiting to be discovered, lots to see and interest everyone, highly recommended.
St Michaels Tower stands impressively at the tallest point of Gloucester city, and strategically where the four main streets cross, it is a familiar landmark on the city's horizon. It stands 25 metres tall and can be dated as far back as 1465, and has seen many changes and events throughout the years. The tower has recently underwent considerable improvements to become a tower of learning where visitors and locals can delve into the Gloucester's abundant and diverse history. You can take an audio trail whereby you can discover the heritage of the city in your own time, see heritage films that include personal accounts and memories on film, there are a number of exhibits on display during the year. There is also the opportunity to take a guided tour they are inexpensive, and run by friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable guides who are happy to impart their considerable knowledge. The tower itself has many interesting features including the stone carvings, stained glass windows, ancient graffiti. St Michaels Tower is the centre in the town for history tours and a great place to start, providing lots of information and things to see.
St Mary de Crypt Church is an important and historical part of the Sunday School movement, and dates back to 1137. What is different about this church is the fact it has a crypt, it is only one of the twelve mediaeval churches known to have a crypt, and the crypt here is completely occupied with burial vaults. It is a pretty church has numerous interesting features such as the old Crypt schoolroom, Master Accommodation, Lancet Windows, wall paintings and stained glass windows. The church is open throughout the summer Monday to Friday from 11.00am to 3.00pm to allow visitors to look around, and there is no charge. You will find the volunteers to be friendly, helpful and informative they are very obliging and are happy to point things out and answer questions you may have. It has had a number of well known pupils attend the school here over the years too. St Mary de Crypt Church is a delightful historical gem and certainly worth taking the time to visit you will be surprised by all there is to see and learn.
Gloucester Waterways Museum is located in a Grade II listed warehouse in the centre of the docks here in Gloucester. The museum communicates the story of the canals and rivers. There are a number of interactive exhibits, you get the opportunity to clamber aboard historic boats, watch the archive films and wander amongst the many exhibits and displays portraying the rich canal history, some of the objects have been classified of national importance. There are lots of information on the displays and artefacts and the lives of those who lived and worked on these waterways is well interpreted. It is a great place to visit with small children they get the opportunity to dress up as waterway children and can enjoy the interactive canal lock exhibit, do jigsaws and brass rubbings being just some of the fun things they can do. Throughout the year they operate a number of different events, so it is worth checking to see what is taking place. In addition from Easter through to September you can take one of the popular canal and river cruises, they vary in length and time and incorporate trips to Tewksbury, Saul Junction and Sharpness and include good commentaries. Gloucester Waterways Museum is an ideal day out for all the family as there are areas to interest everyone and the entrance fees are reasonable and there are lots of options available if you want to include a boat trip etc.

Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum is a visitor experience that gives an actual insight into the life of soldiers and their families during the past three hundred years. The Gloucester Regiment has been involved in many important and memorable battles over the years. It is an intimate museum and if you follow the layout properly you are brought from past to present day, in the chronology of war. The majority of the exhibits are permanent however, there are a number of temporary exhibits that frequently change so always something new to see during a visit here. One of their new exhibits is the Modern Army Display, here you can get an idea of what it was like to serve in Afghanistan, see the newest equipment, feel the weight of the body armour and the pack, see if you can visualise what it would be like to carry these into extreme temperatures. There are some interactive exhibits, firearms, medals and uniforms on displays, a great mock up of a tank encampment and all exhibits are well laid out and presented and overall the museum is very informative and interesting, it is a real tribute to all service men. There is a charge to visit this museum but it is worth the small fee considering the quality of the exhibits. You do not have to be interested in military history to enjoy the Soldiers of Worcestershire Museum it gives a wonderful insight into soldiers lives and tells some extraordinary stories, definitely worth a visit.

A dominant castle with a traditional motte and bailey design, this wonderful structure is definitely worth a visit. Steeped in history and well preserved it was sold at auction in 1897 and bought by the Tamworth Corporation to commemorate Victoria's Diamond Jubilee.
