This attractive, Grade II listed, detached, spacious holiday property is situated right in the middle of the picturesque medieval town of Rye. Accommodation is spread over four floors, giving plenty of room for groups and families. Rye is one of the original Cinque Ports, storms in the 13th century changed the shore line and Rye offered ships a safe harbour, this however silted up in the 16th century and Rye is now 2 miles from the sea. Fishing has seen a rebirth, and Rye herring are dubbed one of the seven culinary wonders of Sussex, and Rye bay scallops merit their own special festival in February. Rye is lined with half-timbered houses, cobbled streets, art galleries and a plethora of tea rooms, restaurants and atmospheric pubs. Once dubbed ‘the smuggling capital of England’, the infamous Hawkhurst Gang frequented The Mermaid Inn on Mermaid Street, which can still be visited today. Climb the tower of St Marys Parish Church for fabulous views across the rooftops and Romney Marshes. Visit Lamb House, home to Henry James and the Ypres Tower. Explore a network of footpaths, including the 1066 country walk and Royal Military Canal Walk. There is also a good network of cycle paths, and nature lovers will enjoy Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. The unique rolling sand dunes at Camber, often used in photo shoots, and Battle Abbey are nearby. There are good rail links to London or the continent via Ashford. Beach 2 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 25 yards.
