This elegant and spacious holiday apartment occupies the entire top floor of historic Craster Tower, a superbly preserved Grade II* country house dating from the 15th century, built around a 14th-century pele tower. Set above part of the owners’ home but with a separate entrance, this magnificent penthouse was refurbished in 2008 and has a Visit Britain 5 Star gold award. There is opportunity for formal dining (by arrangement with owner). There are views from all sides of delightful gardens and countryside. The picturesque village of Craster is a short walk down a footpath through woods and fields or two minutes in the car. Here the tiny horseshoe-shaped harbour can be found, which was built to commemorate a member of the owner’s family. Today crabs and lobsters are the main catch. The village smokehouse remains at the heart of the village, renowned for its fine kippers. An exhilarating short walk leads to Dunstanburgh Castle, voted in the top ten walks in Britain. The Northumbrian Heritage Coast is famous for its beautiful and under-populated golden beaches. Try sand yachting at Bamburgh, jet skiing at Beadnell or sandcastle building at Embleton, voted the most romantic bay in England. Craster is only 7 miles from the historic town of Alnwick, while Bamburgh and Seahouses are a short drive. No trip to Northumberland is complete without first checking the tides to cross over the causeway to Lindisfarne, known as Holy Island. There are five golf courses within 20 minutes and beautiful hills and valleys for strolling amongst the panoramic countryside. Walkers, cyclists and nature lovers will be spoilt for choice here. Shop 50 yards, pub 250 yards.
