The minimum age to take part is 8 so it is an event that most of the family can get involved in. High Sports is located in Basildon Sporting Village and provides state of the art facilities for indoor climbing including, a top rope and lead climbing, bouldering wall and two auto-belay lines. Indoor climbing offers an extensive and strenuous workout or the facilities can be used to practise for outdoor climbs. They run a range of classes and lessons catering to beginners through to seasoned climbers. The staff are great here, so professional, patient, and attentive, they clearly explain all the equipment and how to climb the wall. All equipment is of the highest standard and is available here to hire or buy. The wall extends to 10ft and has more than 50 routes to climb to the top, it is quite an achievement to get to the top and pretty high too. If you are not climbing or need some refreshments after your activity there is a nice cafe next to the climbing area. High Sports offers you the opportunity to try something new that is fun and exciting in a safe and controlled environment.
Barnards Farm Miniature Railway is run by a team of volunteers, it opened back in September 2010 and has been a continual source of fun and enjoyment for families. The track is a 7 1/4 inch gauge that takes steam, diesel/hydraulic, petrol and electric locomotives, it runs from the car park to Belevedere Station and back which covers 1.4km, you can see the sculptures in the garden as you travel along. The train operates from April through to December on Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays as well as Saturdays in the summer months, it also opens for special open days at other times. A great place to visit especially if you have children that love Thomas the Tank Engine. Afterwards you can visit the gardens and enjoy some refreshments here in the welcoming and homely barn. The cost for the railway is very reasonable and once paid you have access to the trains all day. They do Santa Specials at Christmas time. The staff are lovely, really friendly and helpful. They are looking to extend the track so it will offer an even better experience. Barnards Farm Miniature Railway is a lovely day out for all the family, relaxing and fun, a real treat.
Rope Runners offers a fun, thrilling and energetic outdoor adventure up amongst the trees. It covers a large area and offers a variety of obstacles with high ropes, zip wires and high jump all form part of the course. There is also a rock climbing wall, archery, air rifles, assault course and water zorbing. There are different range levels from easy to difficult so the ropes offer a challenge to everyone. They are well organised and the activity is well run. Safety is paramount and you are given a full safety briefing and the equipment is explained before you start. Staff are always close by if you encounter any problems, you will find them to be friendly, helpful and professional. They are also encouraging if heights aren't your forte. Prices are very reasonable and offer great value for money. They are open Tuesday to Sunday, and booking in advance is recommended, each session will last about an hour. Make sure to wear suitable footwear and clothing that you can easily move in. There is the Bunker or Canteen where you can get beverages and hot and cold snacks at reasonable prices. Rope Runners offers a fun and challenging activity that all the family can get involved in, the minimum age is six, you will be very popular if you take the children here on a day out.

It is an 18 hole parkland course designed by Alex Swan and is located in lovely surroundings, with a good variety of holes. This rolling course is tricky in some places and therefore offers challenges to all level of player, it also has a number of obstacles including water features, deep bunkers, ditches and trees. The course is well maintained, the greens are fast and smooth. The most memorable hole on the course is the sixteenth. The club is very welcoming to non members and the staff throughout are very friendly, helpful and professional. The facilities here are very good and the clubhouse is comfortable and welcoming and they have a good menu, the food is very good, well cooked and presented and represents real value for money. There is also a putting green and practice green here. Bentley Golf Club is a great club to play, friendly staff, beautiful course and really reasonable green fees, it ticks all the boxes, highly recommended.

Whetmead Nature Reserve is located in an old landfill site that has developed into an important habitat for wildlife. This twenty five acre site is isolated as it is enclosed by the River Brain and Blackwater and by a main road. The area is predominantly rough meadow, grassland and lagoons, with a small waterfall. The meadow maintains plenty of plant and animal species and is bordered by scrub. The three linked lagoons permits nesting and aquatic birds to breed, there is a bird hide where you can observe the birds from, it also attracts a good variety of butterflies and dragonflies. Once you get away from the main road you enter a place of peace and calm where you can enjoy the picturesque walks and wildlife that has made their home here. Whetmead Nature Reserve is a pleasant sanctuary that allows you to enjoy the tranquilly and beauty of this area and the wildlife and plants that reside here.
Belfairs Wood, also called Hadleigh Great Wood, is a gorgeous expanse of natural beauty. The name was taken from a farm which used to operate on the site in the 1200s. The grounds currently encompass 84.7 hectares which includes a 50 hectare golf course. The park offers a tennis court, playground, basketball court, cricket field, football field, two bowling greens, riding stables, gardens and much more!

Noak Bridge Nature Reserve is located in Basildon Essex and consists of 20 acres of mixed grassland, scrub, woodland and small ponds. It is open every day and offers free entry to the general public and is wheelchair accessible. It provides a place of peace and tranquillity with two nature trails that you can follow and enjoy the scenery and sounds of the woodlands. There are also a number of rustic benches dotted around where you can sit and savour the peacefulness of the reserve. Noak Bridge Nature Reserve also serves as a natural habitat to a number of wildlife and insects, including butterflies, several species of dragonfly, whirligig bettles, frogs, newts, ducks, jays and woodpeckers . There are five permanent and two temporary ponds located here, that provide great growing conditions for a number of plants and shrubs as well as a home for grass snakes. The reserve is attended to by volunteers who do a great job in maintaining the area, they have installed bird nesting boxes and bat boxes in the quieter and more isolated areas of the reserve. If you are in the area take some time to visit Noak Bridge Nature Reserve it makes for a pleasant way to pass a few hours in lovely surroundings.

Milton Creek Country Park is the latest green space in Sittingbourne, Kent. It is an enclosed space that provides a peaceful escape from the hustle of town life. It is the result of a large investment and is formed from a former landfill site that extends to 128 acres. This space has created a safe environment with a large natural play area, a community events space in addition to a large arrangement of paths through different areas that include meadows, scrub and aquatic habitats, with three purpose built lakes. The whole area serves as a home to numerous animal species, insects, flora and fauna, it also serves as a link between the town and the creek. Along the creek path you can observe the historic wharves and consider the history of the area, a number of barges remain in the creek now serving as excellent habitats for wildlife, previously they would have been used to transport bricks, paper and London's waste around the region. This country park is in its infancy but already is well established and serves the community well with many interesting walks that are all pretty level. It is looked after by rangers who ensure the park is well maintained and can be enjoyed by its users who include walkers, joggers and cyclists. In addition they organise a number of events, workshops and activities that families and young children can get involved with, information is on the notice boards at the entrances. Milton Creek Country Park is a great place for a stroll and a picnic to observe and enjoy the local wildlife and appreciate all that the park offers.

Soak up some of the fascinating local history and admire the 13th century castle with it superb views. Spend some time at the old goods yard which served the old Clare railway, and follow the 'history trail' to unravel the mystery of this gorgeous park.

River Walk is a linear park that was founded more than forty years ago, it is a space that extends through the middle of Witham. The area comprises of wetlands, amenity grassland, meadow areas, tree and copse areas and a pond. With the great variety of wild areas it makes for a great home for birds, insects, flora and fauna. There are also more formal areas where you can stop and have a picnic or watch the ducks. The walk can be reached along most of the river and it mostly level with wide paths, making it accessible to all. The area is well maintained, clean and tidy and provides lovely walks. River Walk is pleasant and peaceful and a real benefit to the town.

Thorndon Country Park is divided into Thorndon Park North, that is home to the Countryside Centre and Thorndon Park South. The park covers hundreds of acres and was an ancient deer park that dates back to the 15th century. Within the park you will find a great variety of trees, grassland and three small lakes as well as a diverse range of habitats for the local wildlife. The Countryside Centre was constructed from timber salvaged from the 1987 storms, it is home to a permanent exhibition, a shop that sells gifts and refreshments. The park has lots to explore with its varying landscapes, and provides a number of lovely walks and cycle paths, you can take your own bike or hire one here, it is well laid out and sign posted. You can also horse ride here as long as you adhere to the areas marked with a blue arrow. Fishing is available, you are required to purchase a day ticket, you will find carp and bream here. Or maybe fly a kite and have a picnic, there is ample things to do. Children will love the Woodland Walks, along the way you will find a number of play areas, wooden constructions and teepees, or they can climb trees and build dens. Also if you are a fan of the Gruffalo you will love hunting for the characters and can purchase a map for 50p, great fun for all. Childerditch Pond is beautiful and tranquil and offers a place to get away from it all. A number of events and activities are organised throughout the year so it is worth keeping an eye out for these. Thorndon Country Park offers a cheap great day out for all, take a picnic an spend the day here enjoying the beautiful scenery and tranquillity here, a must if you are in the area.
King George's Playing Fields are located in Brentwood and are situated close to the town. The park extends to seventy three acres and comprises of woodland, formal gardens, childrens play area, paddling pools, playing fields, bowling greens, crazy golf, skate park, cafe and a special garden for the blind with an assortment of plants that stimulate their other senses. The paddling pools are only open during the school summer holidays depending on the weather, it is only accessible to those under twelve years of age, sessions last two hours and attract a small charge. The Crazy Golf is privately owned and also incurs a charge. The adventure playground has lots to entertain young children in a safe enclosed area. The woods offer loads of walks and places to explore, children will love climbing trees and making dens. The bar is well stocked and the prices are very reasonable, there is also a small shop where you can purchase sweets and drinks. It is an intimate venue, that is clean and well maintained. The auditorium is lovely, seating is well laid out and very comfortable and the lighting and acoustics are excellent. West Cliff Theatre is a real community theatre that the locals are lucky to have, a real gem and it shows a fabulous selection of shows with something to appeal to everyone with the extra benefit of excellent customer service, it makes for a great night out.

Tankerton Slopes is the area where the town of Tankerton meets Whitstable. It comprises of a large grass area that slopes down towards the beach, there are steps that lead down to the beach and there is a path that leads right along the coast. The slopes are home to renowned colourful beach huts, that are a popular photo opportunity. These slopes incline gently towards the sea, they also offer the perfect place to observe the world going by. There are great panoramic views of the wartime forts and Southend that is located on the opposite side of the Estuary. In the low tide there is a long stretch of pebbles known as the street that leads out to the sea and offers a temporary natural promenade. It provides entertainment for all seasons, in the winter it is a favourite spot for sledging and snow fun, in the summer it is at these slopes that everyone gathers to watch the regatta firework, during the Whitstable Regatta. It offers a nice place to walk and there is ample open space for children to run around, it is also popular with dog walkers. Tankerton Slopes has a relaxed atmosphere and has some spectacular sunsets, and is perfect for blowing the cobwebs away.

You will find the Information Centre at the front of the Town Hall Building and offers all the information that you require on Witham and the surrounding area. There are leaflets and a number of visitor guides providing all the information needed with regard to places to visit and accommodations. You can also book tickets to shows here. The centre is open Monday to Friday. The staff here are very friendly and helpful, with lots of knowledge on the local area. Also on offer here are a choice of gifts, including souvenirs, local books, cards and postcards.
ST Nicholas Church is located in the town of Witham, it is a warm and welcoming congregation that you will encounter here. The current church dates to the 14th century and continues to be a place of worship, solace and reflection for those that enter through its doors. It still has regular services on a Sunday and Thursday. Many of the features in the church are thought to be the original including the porch, door and oak pews. The interior is decorative with stone quoins and columns, and the nave roof is pretty with its exposed rafters and beams. The bell tower extends to sixty five feet and is home to a peal of eight bells that hang from a cast iron frame, it is an impressive structure with large buttresses at the corners and gargoyles below the roof parapet. St Nicholas Church is a lovely historic church that offers a place of tranquillity and worship, very friendly and welcoming parishioners.

It is home to an interesting and impressive collection of military exhibits with more than one million items that includes, armoured vehicles, a Harrier Jump Jet,a V2, a piece of the Berlin Wall, uniforms, medals, even a Victoria Cross medal, exquisite silks from China, beautiful jewellery crafted by Zulu warriors in addition to an impressive photographic collection. In addition to the permanent exhibitions there are two temporary exhibition rooms where the displays frequently change. The medal room is particularly interesting especially the citations, it a true dedication to the bravery of soldiers who fought in the wars. You also get an insight into what the role of Royal Engineers are and the activities they undertake. Upstairs is a room where children can get dressed up in uniforms. The staff are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and will answer any questions that you might have. The museum is well laid out, the displays have lots of information about them. The museum is open every day except Mondays and there is a charge for entry although if you gift aid you can get unlimited entry for twelve months. There is a cafeteria where you get teas, coffees and light refreshments. They organise a series of events and exhibitions during the year including family fun days, night festivals and much more, it is worth checking these out. Royal Engineers Museum has so much to see and do, it is an informative and interesting museum, there is something to suit everyone, highly recommended.

It enjoys a lovely location positioned right on the edge of the marshes. Sundays have regular worship services. They are a very friendly and welcoming congregation and extend a warm welcome to all visitors. This lovely church has many redeeming features, it is home to two organs which, is unusual, as well as claiming to have the thickest-walled Norman towers, that is home to six bells. The church is open to visitors every Friday afternoon and all day Saturday throughout the summer. Volunteers are responsible for the upkeep of the church and will happily show you around and answer any questions that you might have. Holy Trinity Church is a lovely church with lots of character and an ethereal atmosphere.
A superlative moated Tudor manor, Kentwell's restored interior includes a working Tudor kitchen and Hall with minstrels' gallery, while the gardens feature a Tudor Rose pavement maze and a Camera Obscura. Kentwell hosts historical Tudor and 1940s re-creations throughout the year.
Sittingbourne Heritage Museum is located in East Street between the shops. It is a small and relatively new museum with the collection only starting in 1970 by a local Councillor, today it is home to a large collection of items, memorabilia and artefacts representing a bygone era. There is lots of information pertaining to the cultural, heritage and history of the town with lots of emphasis on the war and its industrial past. The collections are well laid out and displayed. The Museum is open each Saturday from April onwards from 11.00am to 3.00pm, there is no charge for admission but, they do accept donations to help in the upkeep of the museum. Group visits can be arranged outside of these hours, by pre arranged appointment. The museum shop opens every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from from 1.30pm to 4.00pm. The volunteers are lovely, very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in answering questions on both the exhibits and local area. Sittingbourne Heritage Museum is a real gem of a local museum with lots of interesting information and facts waiting to be discovered, highly recommended.
All Saints Church is located in the centre of the town, and a church has stood on this site for more than eight hundred years. The current church dates to the 13th century and still serves as a place of spiritual guidance, worship, reflection and is an integral part of the community. They are a friendly and welcoming congregation and extend a warm welcome to all. This charming church still retains some original Norman features including the tower, the Norman font with its Tudor cover as well as the 15th century arcade found between the nave and the north aisle, other items of interest include a tablet dating to 1444, sanctuary lamp, altar and seafaring windows. They have regular services on a Sunday and Thursday, details are on their website. All Saints Church is of historic and spiritual importance here in Whitstable and serves the community well, it is a lovely place to visit to appreciate the peace and harmony it offers.
