This quaint little cottage dates back over 200 years and has been owned by the same family for more than 100 years. Aptly named after the lady that purchased the whole terrace of buildings in 1910 for the sum total of £150, the property has been transformed by her grandson into a cosy hideaway for three. Just 200 yards from the centre of Pickering, ideally located for exploring both the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, the Heritage Coast of Yorkshire and the Yorkshire Wolds. The historic market town of Pickering is home to a 12th Century castle, a small theatre and the North Yorkshire Moors steam train. Board the train, sit back, relax and enjoy some of Yorkshire’s finest scenery as it chugs its way through the glorious Esk Valley. Take a stroll along the cobbled streets on market day, browse the antique curio shops then pop into one of the many inns for lunch, all offering a warm and friendly welcome. War Weekends in Pickering sees the streets packed with visitors from far and wide. Dressed in their vintage costumes, the town becomes alive with music from the 40’s and is a sight to behold. There are fishing and trout farms just 400 yards from Aconley Cottage, providing fun days for adults and children alike and you are guaranteed a catch for supper!

Take the car and visit Heartbeat country with Goathland and Grosmont some 12 miles along the road. Discover quaint little villages tucked away deep in the valleys where some of the finest tea rooms proudly serve Yorkshire cuisine. For cycling enthusiasts there is Dalby Forest just a short drive with cycle tracks for all ages. You can even hire a bike here, or maybe swing through the trees at Go Ape. Hosting many music festivals throughout the season Dalby Forest has much to offer all the family.

The ancient seaport of Whitby is an easy 18 miles across the moors and is known for its connection with Captain James Cook and Count Dracula. Fishing trips and whale spotting can be enjoyed from the harbour. The brave at heart can take the 199 steps to St Mary’s Church and the stunning abbey ruins where, on clear day, the panoramic views are not to be missed. A more elegant day can be enjoyed a little further to the south in Scarborough, Britain’s oldest seaside resort. There’s an eclectic mix of shopping in the town centre and the cliff lift will take you to the south bay where everything from donkey rides, candy floss and fun palaces to fine dining is on offer. The award winning sandy beaches at both the north and south bay is perfect for a family day at the seaside.

Golf is available in Kirkby Moorside, seven miles, with pitch and putt 1.5 miles and a driving range just four miles. The cathedral city of York is 25 miles and Kirkby Moorside and Malton still host weekly markets where local produce can be purchased. With so much to do and see in the area you may find yourself returning year after year.
