Magnificent Chatsworth House and Gardens, Haddon Hall, Hardwick and Kedleston Hall are just a short drive as are Alton Towers, Gulliver’s Kingdom and Carsington Water, should you require a more exhilarating or energetic experience during your stay. The Peak District National Park is renowned for some of the best walking in England. The Manifold Valley Trail starts only a few yards from the farmhouse and runs to Waterhouses via Ecton, famous for its tin mines. The River Dove passes through many of the stunning dales including Milldale, Lathkilldale and Dove Dale. The Tissington Trail which runs from Ashbourne to Buxton is within 3 miles. Here, a show can be taken in at the opera house or stroll along the lovely Victorian pavilion and gardens. Antique and craft fairs together with a farmers’ market are often held here. Both the Manifold and Tissington Trail are great for cyclists and cycle hire is available. Visit the charming village of Castleton and take a boat ride through the caves to see where the Blue John stone is mined and made into jewellery and artefacts. Village shop 200 yards, country pub serving food 100 yards.
