Barnards Farm Miniature Railway is run by a team of volunteers, it opened back in September 2010 and has been a continual source of fun and enjoyment for families. The track is a 7 1/4 inch gauge that takes steam, diesel/hydraulic, petrol and electric locomotives, it runs from the car park to Belevedere Station and back which covers 1.4km, you can see the sculptures in the garden as you travel along. The train operates from April through to December on Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays as well as Saturdays in the summer months, it also opens for special open days at other times. A great place to visit especially if you have children that love Thomas the Tank Engine. Afterwards you can visit the gardens and enjoy some refreshments here in the welcoming and homely barn. The cost for the railway is very reasonable and once paid you have access to the trains all day. They do Santa Specials at Christmas time. The staff are lovely, really friendly and helpful. They are looking to extend the track so it will offer an even better experience. Barnards Farm Miniature Railway is a lovely day out for all the family, relaxing and fun, a real treat.
Festival Wakeboard Park is a state of the art Cable Wakeboarding facility located in Basildon Essex. The site is equipped with all the latest equipment to cater to beginners, those that want to enhance their skills and serious wakeboarders. The staff here are excellent, very friendly, attentive, patient and professional and safety conscious so you can rest assured you are in safe hands here. They operate a range of classes and lessons where you will learn how to get on the board right through to big air tricks. It is not as easy as it looks but nevertheless, a truly enjoyable and fun experience, at the end you will be exhausted but have a real sense of achievement. All equipment can be hired here so it is not necessary to take anything along. The facilities are very good and the hot showers are a warm welcome at the end of your session. The minimum age to take part is 8 so it is an event that most of the family can get involved in. If you are looking to try something new take yourself to Festival Wakeboard Park where you will have an amazing experience.

Eastbourne Miniature Steam Railway Adventure Park offers you the opportunity to experience one-eighth scale miniature locomotives in their full glory. The locomotives wander around tracks that stretch for almost a mile within a beautiful country park, you can ride on these locomotives or just watch. The driver wears a proper uniform complete with hat and before the train sets off he blows his whistle, there is even a conductor at the rear of the train to ensure all riders are safe. It is a full circuit track complete with a tunnel and bridge, level crossings and even goes along the edge of the lake. The country park has a five acre lake that is home to lots of nature and wildlife, that you can walk around. In the indoor section there are model trains that run around little villages for 20p, it is entertaining to watch them go around the tracks and spot all the miniature features, smaller visitors love this. The tea gardens are the holders of many awards, here you can enjoy the relaxed and warm ambience with a beverage and a light snack. They serve a selection of refreshments, lunches and cream teas that are all reasonably priced. There is lots of space as well as an adventure playground for the children to run around in and burn off all that excess energy. There are also lots of picnic areas around the park. The gift shop has a nice selection of gifts and souvenirs relevant to E.M.S.R. The park is open every day from 10.00am to 5.00pm and you will find the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful, and the entry charge is brilliant value, if you live nearby then you might be worth buying a season ticket. Overall the park has a calm and tranquil feel and even if you don't ride the locomotive you can enjoy the walks and pretty surroundings. E.M.S.R is a perfect day out especially if you have younger children, or are a train enthusiast, it is an enjoyable way to pass a few hours. If in the area take the time to visit this lovely park you will not be disappointed.

It is home to two courses, the 18 hole par 72 Heritage Course and 18 hole, par 72 International Course, both are parkland courses and were designed by Jack Nicklaus. The Heritage Course is a challenging but well thought out course and will test all level of golfer, you need to consider every shot. The course is beautifully maintained offering excellent all year round golfing, you will find the greens to be true and very fast, challenging rough, deep bunkers and the fairways are lush. Noak Bridge Nature Reserve is located in Basildon Essex and consists of 20 acres of mixed grassland, scrub, woodland and small ponds. It is open every day and offers free entry to the general public and is wheelchair accessible. It provides a place of peace and tranquillity with two nature trails that you can follow and enjoy the scenery and sounds of the woodlands. There are also a number of rustic benches dotted around where you can sit and savour the peacefulness of the reserve. Noak Bridge Nature Reserve also serves as a natural habitat to a number of wildlife and insects, including butterflies, several species of dragonfly, whirligig bettles, frogs, newts, ducks, jays and woodpeckers . There are five permanent and two temporary ponds located here, that provide great growing conditions for a number of plants and shrubs as well as a home for grass snakes. The reserve is attended to by volunteers who do a great job in maintaining the area, they have installed bird nesting boxes and bat boxes in the quieter and more isolated areas of the reserve. If you are in the area take some time to visit Noak Bridge Nature Reserve it makes for a pleasant way to pass a few hours in lovely surroundings.

This space has created a safe environment with a large natural play area, a community events space in addition to a large arrangement of paths through different areas that include meadows, scrub and aquatic habitats, with three purpose built lakes. The whole area serves as a home to numerous animal species, insects, flora and fauna, it also serves as a link between the town and the creek. Along the creek path you can observe the historic wharves and consider the history of the area, a number of barges remain in the creek now serving as excellent habitats for wildlife, previously they would have been used to transport bricks, paper and London's waste around the region. Croydon Airport Visitor Centre is a new community venture that is operated by volunteers and opened back in 2000. It is located in Airport House a lovely Art Deco building and opens on the first Sunday of every month during the year, it opens from 11.00am to 4.00pm, there is no charge for admission but, they do accept donations. It is a historic building being the birthplace of modern air traffic control. It is located in the world's oldest Air Traffic Control Tower, although the exhibition space is not very big it holds loads, there is a fantastic collection of interactive displays, exhibits and visual images documenting the history of Croydon airport as a World War I airfield through to being London's first international airport and its eventual closure in 1959. You do not have to book in advance for the guided tours. The volunteers are brilliant, so polite, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Cloud 9 Pantry is a lovely cafe that serves a nice selection of snacks and light lunches, prices are very good. They operate a number of Open Days throughout the year, so worth keeping an eye out for these. Croydon Airport Visitor Centre is a must if you like aviation history, even you aren't a aviation fan there is plenty to keep you entertained and interested, an enjoyable and pleasant attraction.

The line commences at Tenterden and gently saunters along the ten and a half mile track through the glorious and natural countryside of the Rother Valley, with the line ending at the castle at Bodiam. The rolling stock are clean and well refurbished, they include steam locomotives and a 1950's dmmu, so you get a real feel of travelling by train in a bygone era. Most of the level crossings are still gates that are operated manually. There are a choice of ticket options the one that offers the best value is the all day hop-on, hop-off Rover fare you can use the train all day and get off at any stop explore and get on again. King George's Playing Fields are located in Brentwood and are situated close to the town. The park extends to seventy three acres and comprises of woodland, formal gardens, childrens play area, paddling pools, playing fields, bowling greens, crazy golf, skate park, cafe and a special garden for the blind with an assortment of plants that stimulate their other senses. Located in the show rooms are works of art by Reynolds, Gainsborough and Van Dyck. The rooms that you can view as a visitor are astonishing and are resplendent with original furniture and fittings that are being carefully preserved for future generations. There are volunteers in the house who are both friendly and knowledgeable and they will happily assist with any information you need. The house is open during the summer months from April through to November but, the grounds continue to be open throughout the year, along with the outdoor cafe. Smallhythe Place is a charming historic house that was constructed in the early 16th century. It was the residence of the well known Victorian actress Ellen Terry, who bought it in 1899. The house serves as a memorial museum to her life having been established by her daughter Edith Craig in 1929 and is home to an intriguing personal and theatrical collection that accentuates her amazing career and unorthodox personal life. Within the grounds are a cottage garden and a delightful 17th century thatched Barn theatre that offers the chance to see a show with a regular programme of talks and shows, it is amazing to discover all the famous actors who performed here. They also host live productions from here, so worth looking out for these, it makes for a really special occasion. The main house is quintessentially an English cottage that has been well preserved and contains many of the original features and furniture and is pretty much as it was when she died. You will find a selection of her costumes, jewellery, loads of theatrical equipment, books, letters and lots more here. Outside are pretty gardens that include a pond. There is a nice cafe that serves light refreshments, freshly made and very good value for money. You can also buy garden produce whilst here. For younger visitors there is a quiz and also activity packs available. The property is open Wednesday through to Sunday and on Bank Holiday Mondays from March through to October, and there is a charge for entry. The staff are really nice friendly and approachable and with lots of knowledge on the house and its owner and have lots of stories to tell, making for an interesting visit, there is also a small booklet available. Smallhythe Place is a real gem, from its creaking and sloping floorboards to its intriguing history and lovely grounds, it has lots to offer and makes for a pleasant visit.

It is a small and relatively new museum with the collection only starting in 1970 by a local Councillor, today it is home to a large collection of items, memorabilia and artefacts representing a bygone era. There is lots of information pertaining to the cultural, heritage and history of the town with lots of emphasis on the war and its industrial past. The collections are well laid out and displayed. The Museum is open each Saturday from April onwards from 11.00am to 3.00pm, there is no charge for admission but, they do accept donations to help in the upkeep of the museum. Group visits can be arranged outside of these hours, by pre arranged appointment. The museum shop opens every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from from 1.30pm to 4.00pm. The volunteers are lovely, very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in answering questions on both the exhibits and local area. Housed here is a Frobenius organ that is used by some of the world's best organists, as well as the choir who are highly regarded. All Saints Church is a beautiful historic church, it continues to serve the community in so many ways and should not be missed if you are in the area.

Tours can be booked online and only operate on certain days, mainly when closed for holidays, so best to check the website. The guides are friendly, engaging and very knowledgeable on the history of the school and house, they make the tour really enjoyable, it is just the right balance of history and insight into school life.
This small converted farmhouse and garden was the home of Leonard and Virginia Woolf from 1919 until Leonard's death in 1969. Some furniture and personal items remain in the house in which the Woolfs entertained artists and writers of the Bloomsbury Group.

Kew Palace was originally built as a private house in 1631 but, was used by King George III for a time as his country retreat, when he was descending into madness. It is an intimate palace with a long history and many fine architectural and historic features. It is not as ornate as other royal residences but does have some nice furniture and furnishings dating to the 17th century. A real treasure here are the Royal Kitchens they remain pretty much as they were over 200 years ago, making them rare and unusual and giving a true glimpse into a Georgian royal kitchen and the life of a kitchen worker at this time. There is lots of interesting information relayed about King George III and his life here through audio visual methods and the staff in period costume give an authentic feel to the palace. Although the interior is lovely the gardens are equally beautiful regardless of the time of year and are well worth a visit, the Prince of Wales conservatory is fantastic with many wonderful features and there are also other conservatories there with one dating from Victorian times. There are lots of pretty walks that you can enjoy, in the peace and tranquillity of these beautiful gardens. Queens Charlotte's Cottage is another interesting building here as inside you can see how the building was constructed and is an early example of a cottage orne, it was not intended as a residence but as somewhere to rest and have tea if walking in the garden. The guides throughout are great, really friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and ready to answer any questions you might have. Kew Palace closes for the winter, it opens from April through to September although, the gardens are open all year round. There is a charge for entry to the gardens and a further charge to enter Kew Palace. Although not large or ornate it is still an interesting historic building with a certain charm and appeal and most certainly worth visiting.
The Lauderdale House was constructed in 1582. Today the landmark offers both a gorgeous view of Waterlow Park as well as a unique experience for those interested in arts and education. The area is well maintained and very clean and offers fabulous views of the park and the sea. There are sitting areas where you can stop and admire the views. Guided walks of the area are operated in the summer months, taking in a number of buildings of interest and you get a full history, very interesting and informative, they last about an hour and a half and take a maximum of twenty people, there is no charge for the walk but they do accept donations, full details are on the website. There is also an annual festival that commerorates the history of the area. Burton St Leonards is a delightful area to walk around and explore particularly if you have an interest in history and architecture.
