Burnfoot of Cluden is very much in the country, but only a short drive from the market town of Dumfries, which has many places of interest including Dumfries Museum, Gracefield Arts Centre and poet Robert Burns’ house, as well as cinemas, ice skating, swimming and a wide choice of shops and restaurants. Other local attractions include Drumlanrig Castle, with its famous art collection, beautiful gardens and country park, The Striding Arches Walk, by contemporary sculptor Andy Goldsworthy and the Glenkiln Sculpture Trail. Also in the area are Sweetheart Abbey, Mabie Forest and Mabie Farm Park, Threave Garden, Caerlaverock Castle and Caerlaverock Wetland Centre. Galloway Forest Park, the UK’s first Dark Skies Park and Loch Ken offer a huge range of outdoor activities including water sports. Burnfoot of Cluden is also an excellent base from which to explore the extensive Seven Stanes mountain bike trails. Day tickets for salmon and trout fishing, including the beat alongside the property, can be purchased online.
