Situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park and adjacent to the owners’ home, Appletree Cottage is a green oak, timber-framed building, set in the mature and tranquil natural garden of a Victorian gate keeper’s cottage. Built in 1856, the lodge was the main entrance to Heath House, a grand Victorian mansion built by a local mill owner. Over the years, Heath House has been used for the location for films such as ‘Sherlock Holmes’ and ‘Miss Marple’ and was also the subject for the TV series ‘Country House Rescue’. Appletree Cottage was built by the owners in 1998 on the plot where an old deteriorating apple tree used to live. Natural materials were used to blend with the rural location and to enhance the opportunity to relax and absorb the wonderful feeling of nature and the countryside at its best. The owners now wish to share the gem with others who have an appreciation for the simplest yet most relaxing rewarding locations. This cottage is close to many National Trust properties, including Sudbury Hall, Little Moreton Hall and Kedleston Hall. It is also close to the Alton Towers theme park, a fun day out for all ages. Shop 1½ miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
